Basil Zempilas has confirmed that he will nominate himself for the position of Liberal Party leader.
Speaking on Thursday, the Churchlands MLA announced that he would put his hand up for the role following current leader Libby Mettam's announcement earlier today that she will be stepping down.
"I appreciate that I'm going to be asked between now and then what my intentions are," Zempilas said.
"And I am happy, and I think it is reasonable, to say that yes, I will put my name forward for consideration by my fellow team members within the Liberal Party room."
The party room meeting is expected to take place next week, where it will be decided who takes on the leadership position.
