I can't wait for this book by @ConferringCarl to be available in June. I was just in a school that had multiple units on writing fantasy and the impact on engagement was obvious. This book is the perfect support! https://t.co/ZiMkoOtViN
Excited for this 2-day in-person Bangkok institute with my thought partner @ConferringCarl in September! We’ll share classroom ready strategies for integrating reading & writing instruction. International educators, come join us! Register @ChaptersInt website.

@ShelfieTalk Invite me and I'm on the next plane! Thanks so much for inviting me tonight, and for thinking so deeply about #RadicalLIsteningBook. Stay in touch everyone, and happy conferring! #shelfietalk
@MrsCSoucy Agreed. Thinking ahead about what sort of faces will walk into your room, and ordering books that reflect those faces, is SO important. As Sims-Bishop reminds us, we want to provide kids with mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors. #shelfietalk
@sonjawright My thought partners Carl Anderson and Penny Kittle have both written wonderful books on mentor texts, with many suggestions for specific texts. I highly recommend! #shelfietalk
@meikljea Interestingly, I heard from many teachers I work with that conferring felt like the only thing that worked for them during COVID. Kids (and teachers) were longing for connection, and somehow the whole class lessons weren't doing it. #shelfietalk
@ShelfieTalk @LaurenCormier11 Thinking of a series of conferences this way makes it a.) easier for the teacher (you don't have to invent the wheel each time), and b.) makes the learning feel more continuous for the student. #shelfietalk
@MeganYJ38 It's important 2 keep notes of what you talk abt from conf 2 conf. Even if u have a photographic memory, u won't remember that particular phrase/word choice a kid used 2 weeks ago. If you want 2 see a kid's face brighten, quote back 2 them what they said last month! #shelfietalk
@SiebenLauren Yes! As I write about in Ch 5, for any teaching point in a writing conference, there is a parallel point to be made in reading. When we keep careful notes and remember to make that point in the next rdg or wtg conference, the learning can be powerful. #shelfietalk
@MeganYJ38 Thanks 4 your honesty, Megan. It's scary at first & you will sometimes fall on your face, but ultimately it's these convos kids remember in years to come. Teachers are often the first adults in children's lives (besides their parents) who care about their thinking. #shelfietalk
