@wholesomeIE @morningireland The unit rates are also generally higher on smart tariffs during the day, and much higher at peak times. Most people wont be able to counter this by using more night rate, even if all usage data were available. Smart tariffs are currently an unwise choice...
Either we need severe regulation of energy sector or it needs to be brought into public ownership. As people start being more energy efficient, they are just going to keep raising prices to preserve profit margins, in ways we cant avoid, no matter how eco-friendly our usage is.

The whole 'switch energy provider' scene is another massive grift; you may compare elec rates and pick the best, then sign up to 12 month contract, but the contract only applies to the 'discount', not the unit rate. Get 33% off - then after you sign, actual unit rate goes up 40%.
