I've not spoken about this directly before, but it seems the right time. Tomorrow our daughter Penny will be admitted into hospital for a stem cell transplant. She has a rare autoimmune condition which causes her body to attack itself.

It's usually credited to Dorothy Parker, though it's only quoted in posthumous biographies and none of her own writings. There are other examples from her lifetime, so it's possible it was in commonish usage
