If Essendon even considers James Hird to be their coach again after all this time, it would underscore what a backward dysfunctional organisation it is and its sheer inability to let go of the past.
Hird hasn’t coached for 11 years and he didn’t even demonstrate that he had what it took to become a super coach in his time in the job!
The Bombers need to stop the obsession with past greats or they will continue to go nowhere. The club has to embrace the future and bring in the best guy for the job who has recently been involved at club land for a lengthy period of time
@SkullSpeedDeal@LeeRespecter He wasn’t made redundant. Nobody at the SEC was. He obviously took a VDP. Voluntary Departure Package. Note the word “Voluntary”. Facts matter.
@JacintaAllanMP He didn’t “lose”his job. No SEC worker was sacked. He must have opted for the VDP - Voluntary Departure Package - and departed. Note the word “voluntary”. Many stayed on. It was an option. Facts matter.
@RoadknightThe And also nobody was sacked from the SEC. They were offered redundancy packages. Not all took them as they were not compulsory. This bloke obviously chose to….inconvenient facts ignored
If the reason you think Essendon is ‘unwatchable’ is the wins and losses column - change your perspective.
We currently have the buzz draftee from the 2025 living up to the hype, a tall forward who can sit on people’s heads for a hanger just as easily as he slots a goal outside 50 & a kid in his third year leading the AFL for most disposals.
Furthermore, no player of the aforementioned trio has turned 21.
Outside of young guys showing their wears, in the last month the club has been in a winning positions against GC & GWS but yielded late.
It’s the pragmatist’s dream: showing progress while not burning a top 1-3 pick in the process.
Do you reckon anyone will even care about the wins and losses in 2026 when the draft rolls around and we’re bringing in another junior jet?
Finally! Essendon is embracing the bigger picture. That should be extremely exciting for any fan who’s endured us taking shortcuts for two decades
@_eating_seeds@AFL Are you serious you idiot. Any chance we can honour our Anzacs has to be taken. I don’t know your background but I know one thing if Australian you are an ungrateful son of a bitch.
@JohnYiannakopou@7AFL Pick 10 became pick 15. Facts matter. Essendon already had 3 picks before that. 22 became a late 20s ( first round in your world) and next years is likely to be around 20 or so.
@Kyptastic1 But, Ian, this won’t help us in the regional areas. Fuel is already low and we have greater distances to travel. And it’s not really about us motorists. The huge shortage in diesel and the massive cost increase in rural areas is the big one.
@FlightPlanPod Did I hear that stat correctly? Only McGrath and Ridley from 2016 left. Nobody left at Essendon from drafts in 2017, 2018 and 2021. And only Tsatis and Hayes from 2022? And Dodoro didn’t want to leave?
