@Calderon76J Only 3 year residents and locals can buy in the developments I mentioned. Why would high end property developments impact that? The demand can only come from long term residents or locals.
@Calderon76J Even for the new HCT development. Someone listed their new 3 bed which would’ve cost around £270k for £550k recently. A house finished 3 years ago for locals who needed housing.
@Calderon76J Our biggest enemy is ourselves. We (locals) are pricing our young out of houses. Harbour views original price £30k for a 2bed, now £300k. Mons Calpe £140k for a 2 bed, now £400k. Europa Walks £200-300k tender for 2 bed, now £500/600k. I can repeat for other estates.
@rockfallgib There are criticisms of other persons in the Report, not just the CM. Why have we not heard from other elected members at all on any matter within the report?
The CM has done a good job leading Gibraltar through Brexit and COVID, but the contents and findings of this report (as set out by the Chronicle) are too scandalous.
He needs to step down now for the greater good and to protect Gibraltar's international reputation.
@KaelanJoyce It has nothing to do with the GSD. It is simply about the role and stature of the CM. The right thing to do, ethically & morally, is step down as CM. Angela Rayner had to step down for a lot less in the UK…
I empathise with Nigel and his attempts to convince UK Ministers that the remote gaming tax would cripple our economy. I tried to do the same with the local property tax and faced a similar outcome😐 It is a shame Ministers do not take relevant sectors advice…
@Calderon76J The stamp duty payable on this (even as a first/second time buyer) is £77,000.00. That is more than most pay in tax in 4-5 years. Some locals are being pushed away because the houses built with taxpayer money have not remained affordable, and locals have made a hefty profit!
🚨 Arsenal reach agreement in principle with Crystal Palace to sign Eberechi Eze. Deal worth around expired £68m release clause - matching what #THFC were ready to pay. Personal terms close + 27yo plays for #CPFC on Thurs before #AFC medical @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/vo5xWTomOI
This is a great initiative but what is the point if students are not being given grants for their professional courses? It is sad to hear several students have been rejected by DoE for their funding for law courses.
I am glad the Minister for Housing has used one of my policy suggestions from my opinion posted in the Chronicle in August 2024. Hopefully more of my suggestions can be considered and implemented in the future.
