Some lessons I learned and relearned on my microcap investment journey during 2024.
I hope these insights are helpful to someone.
Here they are, in no particular order:
I watched only the first couple of minutes, but I think he is significantly downplaying the usefulness of current LLMs.
We are deploying AI in companies these days and helping with adoption, and I see actual ROI from these projects. Despite all the issues current LLMs have, the technology is very useful if it is deployed in a way that makes sense.
From an investor’s point of view, I agree that we are likely in a bubble. However, I think the big difference between examples like the metaverse and crypto is that current LLMs actually have utility for broader market, even in their current state.
Happy to talk about in person Paul!
Fair point. But I think you might be thinking about it a bit too binary.
Software is basically workflows on top of the data. What could happen is that over time, more and more of these workflows are going to be moved somewhere else. It doesn't have to happen in one big bang.
So the overall value of the software for the organization is going to decrease, and with that your appetite for how much you are willing to pay for it.
How many resources were wasted this time to once again introduce something completely useless that is slowing down business in the EU and preventing the formation of new industry on European soil?

A pretty much constant paradox is that we expect outlier outcomes from people that we demand act in normal, average ways. We love geniuses after they do the great thing, but we basically loath and harass them if they act in uncouth ways before hand.
One of the biggest issues with @OpenAI in business is the availability of their services.
There is simply not a week when everything in their stack works as it should, and since the release of GPT 5, it has been much worse.
No clue how this is going to unfold in the end, but for me, it's just a reminder that boring is beautiful and that the concept of a margin of safety exists for a reason.
China’s #DeepSeek could represent the biggest threat to US equity markets as the company seems to have built a groundbreaking AI model at an extremely low price and w/o having access to cutting-edge chips, calling into question the utility of the hundreds of billions worth of capex being poured into this industry. https://t.co/vEesgELLPA (via @knowledge_vital)
What is also utterly striking to me is how many traditional mainstream media outlets in Europe are completely silent about the topic today.
Check your favorite local media and see what they report in their Europe news section today. It is a great litmus test.
