I get the impression that the Local Comics/Art Scene is sort of prone to this & that's why the Andrés Caicedo's novel cover controversy happened without anyone in the editorial team being careful enough to point it out & correct it before printing. Sheltering egos is a priority.
This reminded me of the time I did proofreading for a comic anthology and when I delivered my feedback, most authors completely ignored it and argued that "people don't have ortography when they talk" (which is actually a common take in the field), so I stopped giving a fuck.
People kept using commas and exclamation marks in the middle of sentences, but REFUSED to add a period. I saw this Published Author actually arguing about this issue with her Big Editorial editor and I was like... Are you forreal, sister? Let them do their job and save you, wtf!!
