I will not argue that the Titans are a laughing stock but Mike Vrabel was handed a playoff winning team and after 6 years, had the same win% as Jeff Fisher here. He was a fine coach, but this idea that he’s a coaching legend (without any rings, btw) is just laughable.
If you’re referring to me it seems as ownership values tireless work ethic & a clear vision of how the team will look going forward. So I’d assume Ran struck out on those things compared to Brinker. Ran over promising this year I’m sure raised some eyebrows. Brinker was probably saying they are further away from being competitive. Turns out he’s right. Hence you trust him moving forward.
The #Titans hired Ran & Brinker the same year.
They now like Brinker & his vision of the team as well as his work ethic more than the other. Simply they want Brinker because he outperformed Ran.
Not sure what’s so confusing about the situation. #TitanUp
I’m going to address some things and be done with it.
1. I believe Amy turned this franchise around for a while when she took over. You know it and I know it. We all said it. She has good qualities and got involved with the players in fans in ways we haven’t seen previously. And I appreciate that.
2. I also don’t believe that equates to long term success and you still have to make good football decisions. I gave her a lot of grace, but I think it is more and more apparent that catastrophic mistakes have and are being made.
3. You can change your opinion with new information. It’s true. It’s called growth and being able to admit when you are wrong. And I have been very wrong.
4. HOWEVER, I never said yesterday that she was a great owner and makes all the right decisions. I said she deserves a lot of criticism and in hindsight some of these decisions have been very bad. I only said she isn’t going to and shouldn’t sell her family team. And if people can’t accept that, it may be time to move on to a new team.
5. I also said that asking her to step down, step aside, or give control to someone else are very valid requests. Selling the team is not.
6. A big argument I made yesterday was toward people who say she doesn’t care. And I will die on the hill that she absolutely cares….maybe too much. Maybe so much that it makes some decisions rash….and yes, emotional. I can admit that now in hindsight. But her caring should never be in question. Her competence, maybe.
7. She did grow up in the NFL, so saying she has no football knowledge is kind of crazy. But understanding ball and business does not always equate to making the right personnel decisions. And I do not believe she has made the right decisions.
8. I am disappointed, angry, embarrassed, frustrated by this team too. I just choose not to let it turn me into an ass. I love this team and always will. But I’m at a loss at the moment for where we are at. And Amy should absolutely have to answer for that.
Did I miss anything? If so, I’ll be happy to answer questions. 👇
With #Titans moving on from Ran Carthon, let there be no mistake who is running the show.
President of Football Operations Chad Brinker is in charge of personnel decision moving forward.
Now the power structure is clear regardless of next GM choice. I support that.
Yes...but I think what the Titans need most is an owner with a vision for the franchise and the patience to stick with that vision. This amount of firings in a short time speaks to that lack of vision/patience. Pick a path and stick with it for more than a year.
I’m in the minority but I like this for the #Titans.
Organization is actually more aligned now than you’d think. Clear power structure. Brinker will hire GM. Brinker hired Callahan. QB next.
The same people calling for firings are now outraged because…someone got fired?
I do not want to hear from Chad Brinker.
I do not want to hear from Brian Callahan.
I want to hear from the OWNER OF THE TEAM. Not a pre-recorded, edited video. For the first time, I’d like to see Amy field some questions in real time and provide some actual answers.
Long tweet incoming about Brian Callahan, Ran Carthon, and the future of the #Titans:
No matter how you look at it, Brian Callahan and *maybe* Ran Carthon are in an impossible position.
For starters, if Carthon does indeed stay and isn't fired by Amy Adams Strunk due to another Texans induced tantrum, then expectations for the upcoming offseason will be drastically increased.
This team has a lot of needs right now, a lot of which are due to the jihadding done by former GM Jon Robinson.
They need a new RT, potentially a new RG, more WR depth, more EDGE rushers, another safety to compliment Amani Hooker, potentially some more ILB depth, more depth behind Jeffery Simmons and T'Vondre Sweat, and most importantly a new QB.
Now, with loads of cap room and 8 total picks in the draft — 2 picks in the top 100 — some, if not most of these spots can be addressed, but only if you're willing to concede some in the way of talent.
I say that because the upcoming draft lacks a real depth of blue chip talent. So much so that it might only be possible to find a real blue chip talent if you reside within the top 15 to *maybe, and that's a strong maybe* 20 picks.
If you expect some sort of roster revolution based solely on this draft, then you're going to be very very disappointed. The Titans could still trade back and acquire more picks, but in a draft that really lacks a depth of blue chip talent, you're playing with house money at this point.
Granted you can and still will find good players — this draft has some fun talent — it's just you'd potentially bring in a larger quantity of players that won't be able to make the unrealistic splash you'd be hoping for.
Plus, you need a quarterback sooner rather than later anyways.
Do you want to pass on a quarterback now? Or wait until 2026? But you don't want to be bad enough to secure a top pick to get a QB in 2026 right?
And if you aren't bad enough, you're in a position where you'd have to trade valuable picks — picks you still need btw —you're still not good enough in the eyes of the volatile Amy Adams Strunk.
You can't forget about the opening of the new stadium in 2027 either. You need something to put fans in seats, something to make them spend money, and what better way to do that than a shiny QB?
Free agency is a bit of a different story, but it's complicated there due to the money expected to be given out. The Titans do indeed have cap room, but only around $61M according to Spotrac.
You could bring in some top talent in free agency, but even then you'd still be banking on the draft — which again, isn't a deep draft, especially at positions of extreme value — to fill in the rest AND you'd be asking a handful of rookies to contribute at a decent level early.
Now, taking everything into consideration, do you understand the insanity the fanbase, Amy, and others are expected? True rebuilds take years and only in rare cases do you find extremely successful short term rebuilds.
The Titans aren't in a position to do such a thing, which should temper expectations regarding their ability to massively transform this roster in such a short period of time.
But expectations will remain unreasonably high and as a result, will likely end with Callahan and/or Carthon being canned by next offseason at most.
Brian Callahan just said that moving forward he needs to build relationships and make himself available to defensive players and special teamers, not just offensive guys [paraphrasing].
After an entire year as head coach, head coach Callahan is ready to be the head coach. 💯
I would keep an eye on just fired #Bengals DC Lou Anarumo for a possible position on Brian Callahan's staff here in Tennessee. Good coach, who was victim of some not so great players this year.
And MFs can’t act like the Bengals were this prestigious franchise that groomed talent and won championships…1 player can most definitely change the course of a franchise…Can’t be scared to pull the trigger tho!!!
A few thoughts on the #Titans (a thread). Changes need to be made and the fan base deserves to hear from the person that will make those changes... Amy Adams Strunk. She needs to hold a press conference and be accountable. @1025TheGame
