Great thread. The potential imposition social consequences rather than at the hands of the government is really germane here. It’s really a classic game theory problem. If you have an unpopular but reasonable take on a matter, your best response is to keep it to yourself. Most people are status-maximizing rather than truth-maximizing. So they’re more interested in “winning” than debating a truth about the world, or developing a more accurate “map.” Overlaying the Asch Effect on this, you can see how easily consensus is manipulated/manufactured (and how fragile that perceived consensus is when someone point out the empires has no clothes).

@notaproviderMD For clarification- Insurance companies don’t charge for physician visits. They PAY for them. So if there’s a secondary charge, that’s on the provider. They’re the ones billing the insurance.
