Abled people are not running out of steam in this "disabled lives are nothing but suffering and are hard on 'normal' relatives, so let's nip them in the bud" tirade on here. Still going.
We went to Michaels and found they were having an event for their new party section. She decorated cookies, I learned how to make a balloon arch, we did a scavenger hunt, she linked up with the staff member able to answer her art supplies questions.
It is Pride Month.
Throughout this month, I will be sharing the stories of Canadians who fought for equality.
Today it is the story of Michelle Douglas.
@HistoryCath@penshurstbooks My father was in Korea. Came back, quietly gathered up the rifles and ammunition he had at home, went out and threw them off a bridge.
Remembering today the Canadians who landed on Juno Beach on D-Day: Royal Winnipeg Rifles; Regina Rifles; Canadian Scottish; 6th Armoured Regt (1st Hussars); Queen's Own Rifles of Canada; Régiment de la Chaudière; North Shore (New Brunswick) Regt; /
@chuckhead21896 My grandfather showed up to enlist on September 3, 1939, despite having been run over by a logging truck the previous winter. Don't tell me giving him a crystal ball would have affected his decision.
They say people like us wouldn't exist in an ideal world then expect disabled people to feel gratitude for the bare minimum.
These people don't seen disabled people as belonging. They see us as beings to be tolerated as long as we're well-behaved. They don't see us as equals.
One of my clergy colleagues missed our regional meeting today because he was at the synagogue in Westmount, showing support for our Jewish neighbours after someone tried to burn down the building.
"Juno Beach was uneventful on D-Day" is quite a take, given that it was the second deadliest beach after Omaha. Despite this, 3rd Canadian Division made it further inland than any other Allied formation.
@penshurstbooks Dieppe: RHLI, Essex Scottish, Calgary Regt, Royal Regt of Canada, South Saskatchewan Regt, Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada, Fusiliers Mont-Royal. RHLI were in the main assault, heavy casualties on the beach and at the seawall.
In a discussion of potential justice initiatives, and I am making the point that 3.5 million Canadians are Deaf or hard of hearing, yet our denomination has few churches providing ASL or LSQ interpretation, unlike others.
D-DAY ANNIVERSARY: More than 30 churches in the United Kingdom, France, Belgium and Luxembourg contain stained-glass windows honoring U.S. military efforts during the First and Second World Wars.
Stars and Stripes reporter @pwwellman visited them over the course of seven months. Highlighted here are a few that remember D-Day.

At Normandy, Secretary Hegseth recognized today the significant courage and sacrifice of those who stormed World War II beaches against Nazi forces. Then, per a pool report, he added this:
"Sadly, today, different European beaches are stormed by different dangerous ideologies. Beaches in Spain and Italy and Greece and Bulgaria. Boats and men arrive. When will European capitals do something about that invasion? Or is it too late? I pray not, and I believe not."
Very pleased to have the Canadian Bible Society/Société biblique du Canada present at our United Church of Canada regional meeting and express thanks for the collaboration of the Kanesatake community with them and us on translating the Bible into Mohawk.
@SkulkofRoses A lot of so called progressives draw the line at disability. Their intersectionality almost never includes it. And if it does, it’s never people with intellectual disability. They will literally invent a lie to suit their belief system.

Loving our opening worship led by Mission protestante francophone de Montréal, who worship in French and are largely from the Église évangélique du Cameroun.
