@adambspencer She actually increased her 1st preference votes - but so did Wilson (Liberal Dems and UAP - 2022 UAP votes didn't translate to Trumpet). Plus Labor and Greens decrease in first preferences accounts for Wilson getting over the line.
So, it appears not many did as you suggested!
That's just ridiculous. Actual disbelief... but there shouldn't be because it happens all the time.
Look forward to the apology like with Keays' goal and Dawson's non-call v Collingwood.
New ‘Why do we need teachers when we have Google?’ variant spotted in the wild.
We don’t teach kids about grammar and mitochondria and trig because we’re hedging our bets they want to become poets, biologists or coders; we teach them a foundation of human knowledge so they can make sense of, and navigate through, their lives, and the world. And so they’re exposed to a million possible futures.
To think like a mathematician, you need to know lots of maths. To think like an historian, you need to know lots of history. There are valid arguments to be made about content but this is not one of them.
@ozteachertalk Your nastiness is matched by your ignorance. You don't know me, or anything about me, and you engage in hateful and personal attacks. This is also after I was trying to be quite friendly...
I sincerely, sincerely hope your students don't pick up your behaviours, Anon.
The response to this has been telling: "the rejection of direct instruction is a classic case of an immature profession, one that lacks a solid scientific base and has less respect for evidence than for opinion and ideology" -Hattie, 2012, p. 258.
Direct instruction is joyful & leads pupils to success. Here is a *clip* where I use high frequency & high participation questioning in 3 phases:
1. Check for listening
2. Rehearsal
3. Check for understanding
Established routines: all hands up, turn & talk, SLANT & ruler reading
@ozteachertalk@readingrsmind Anonymous and rude responses to quite polite Xs don't get to make demands. Go speak to your school about doing some PL and you'll see the footage. Or don't 🤷🏻♂️.
@TinaBit @Strickomaster Fantastic - I share your view. But how does one solve problems? How does an engineer, or lawyer, a doctor, or tradesperson solve problems? And how do you evaluate and inform your beliefs? The answer is with excellent foundational knowledge. I'd highly recommend @daisychristo book
@ozteachertalk@readingrsmind Suggest, as a fellow Adelaidian, checking when Lorraine Hammond is next in town. She does this type of teaching in the Kimberley with great impact.
I've also seen footage of it done with zero relationships with kids in the classrooms you speak of.
@readingrsmind@nsachdeva2019@Mr_Raichura Jealous and scared. It's a natural response when someone's whole ideology or worldview is threatened. Remember, people in their 30s to late 40s have been at school and uni knowing nothing except constructivist approaches.
@BluntMancLady @Strickomaster I've seen @DrLSHammond explain how this works in practical subjects - including Wood Tech - very effectively.
The author of the video has also said a number of times that this isn't 100% of lesson time.
