Europe needs a better budget, not a bigger one.
The numbers are still unreasonable. The proposed increase is still wildly unaffordable. And the overall volume must come down significantly.
A budget is about priorities, meaning to decide what matters most โ and what we simply cannot afford. If everything is a priority, taxpayers end up paying for the lack of priorities.

Europe's competitiveness depends not only on new policies, but also on making existing rules simpler and easier to implement.
Today, @CarlHartzellEU, Director-General for EU Affairs at the Swedish Prime Minister's Office, participated in the launch of the Alliance for the Reduction of Bureaucratic Burden, hosted by Austria.

On Monday, the EU can finally open the first accession negotiations cluster with Ukraine and Moldova.

Many countries are now knocking on the EUโs door. They want to be part of a free Europe and the worldโs largest single market. It is in our interest to help the candidate countries make progress towards joining the Union.
I am deeply saddened by the tragic accident in Buggenhout, Belgium this morning. My thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones and all those affected.
โThe free trade agenda is really gaining momentum.
The EU needs to conclude more free trade agreements. Advancing the negotiations with Malaysia and the Philippines should be a priority. They could create almost 4000 new jobs in Sweden.
In an increasingly complex geopolitical environment, diversifying trade and securing access to new markets is not only desirable but essential.โ

We all need to commit to making the EU work better for business.
High-level discussion on European competitiveness today in Brussels, hosted by us and the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, with EU Minister @Rosencrantz_J and EU Commissioner @VDombrovskis.
The discussion focused on how the EU can achieve genuine simplification and burden reduction without compromising its strategic objectives.
