Announced, Unannounced & Live:
A preliminary insight into the visual search behaviours of football goalkeepers during different practice conditions
Work from @ben__franks1@danieljbevan & myself
👇Ben’s thread discusses implications for session design
The search for the optimal development environment continues, now with a search into human science. How do humans (GKs) ACTUALLY learn best? What do we need to do to facilitate this?
Are we willing to listen and acknowledge what this can teach us or do we carry on the same way?
cheap and dirty takeaways
1. Keep the visually familiar bits from the game coupled in practice
2. Expose GKs to variability in how they make saves with moving bodies and occlusion
3. As much as possible face GKs with uncertainty through unannounced and live practice conditions
*How do different practice tasks impact how goalkeepers make saves?*
Myself, @AnthonyWhite91 and @danieljbevan wanted to see how different practice tasks (i.e service types, sequencing) impacts how goalkeepers search for visual information during saves.
A big thread...

Disappointing tweet. A hardworking, talented 17 year old lad makes his first start in the championship having worked his way into the squad and this is the tweet from a ‘son of Birmingham’. How about support young lads that earn an opportunity rather than post idle gossip

Increased fixture schedules generally included less recovery periods between training & competitive match play disposes players to greater risks of injury

@Gilharry2 @DavidSheasby3 @BCFCProtests @thegoalzone The point that all the lads mentioned in your tweet just landed into the first team of their own accord is puzzling. All of them came through the academy, didn’t walk in and pull on a shirt. No one has called Mike a God, just a man who has positively affected a lot of people
@DavidSheasby3 @BCFCProtests @thegoalzone Is this a real opinion? Firstly, calling Jude a ‘natural talent’ is disrespectful to the work he, his family and academy staff put in. On your main point; Dimi Gray, Nathan Redmond, Jack Butland, Steve Seddon, Wes Harding, plus lads still coming through, ask them about Mike Dodds
@thegoalzone Not one to bite on social media but this has got me. Be amazed if you’ve spoken to, or ever seen Mike coach. If you had, you’d know he is not only a ‘football person’ but also one of the best youth developers around. Any suggestion otherwise is misinformed nonsense
