@andrewasalways That’s basically how I taught myself…working my way from one recipe to the next, building on skills and acquiring tools along the way (a food processor makes pie dough SO much easier to make!). I actually just made this pie yesterday…

@andrewasalways Whereas cooking is an art, baking is a science. Follow all directions as written—do steps in order, don’t make substitutions. Also know that most cookie recipes have the same template, most cakes, most pies…start easy and then work your way into more complicated variations! 😊

Tonight’s baking experiment was Lemon Chess Pie. Apparently there’s debate over where the name “chess” comes from. Some say the word “chest” or “just” or “cheese” in the name was misheard. Others say that chestnut meal was used back in the day. Regardless: the pie is delicious.

Happy October 11! Not only is today the first federally-recognized Indigenous Peoples' Day, but it is also National Coming Out Day and the 37th anniversary of my arrival in the United States. I'm marking the occasion with a homemade wild blueberry pie. :-)
