Iran War: Short SITREP (General Access) BLUF Amidst heightened focus on the Middle East, with reports pointing to possible renewed U.S. military action against Iran and/or the Houthis in Yemen, U.S. President Donald J. Trump is set to travel to New York City, New York to attend the UN General Assembly (UNGA). Key Points - The U.S. blockade of vessels traveling to and from Iran remains in place, with CENTCOM recently announcing in the past weeks that they have redirected over 100 vessels since the resumption of the blockade. - Negotiations between the U.S. and Iran are ongoing but have yet to merit notable progress, as both sides, most recently Iran, have said that their conditions and preconditions for a wider ceasefire or a return to the MOU framework remain the same. - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is set to stop in Qatar before traveling to the UNGA. - U.S. President Donald J. Trump is set to meet with Gulf leaders from Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE on the sidelines of the UNGA on the 22 of September to talk next steps on the conflict in the region. - The conflict between the Houthis, Saudi Arabia, and the Yemeni government continues, with Saudi Arabia and the Houthis trading strikes. • Saudi oil exports have seen a notable decline since the renewal of the conflict, as key pipelines and infrastructure have been hit by the Houthis and Iranian-backed groups in Iraq. - The Houthis maintain that they do not seek to cut off the strategic maritime choke point of the Bab al-Mandeb Strait (BAM), despite recent gains in the locality and urgings from Iran. However, as Saudi Arabia is likely to renew its urgent requests for more direct U.S. assistance in their fight against the Houthis, there is a reasonable possibility that President Trump may accede to Saudi requests in the hope that strikes against key Houthi infrastructures will induce Houthi deescalation against the Saudis. • Should the U.S. conduct strikes against the Houthis, it’s highly likely that they will expand their strike campaign against shipping in the BAM, effectively closing down the strategic maritime choke point. - U.S.-Iran negotiations are unlikely to merit much success in the near-term as long as both sides fail to find points of convergence on key points like the administration of the Strait of Hormuz and the nuclear file. To be clear, when he says latin actors are “under represented”, he is 100% basing that on the fact that he can’t get a fucking job, because he insists on only seeing himself as a “Latino actor”, as opposed to presenting yourself as just an ACTOR, and allowing your SKILL and EXPERIENCE to dictate your role opportunities.
