@SpitfireFilly@timg33@militaryhistori It's a shame that it's dismissed out of hand that historians often have multiple strings to their bow which allows them to offer informed insights, and as you say the media requires simplicity and accessibility!
@timg33@SpitfireFilly@militaryhistori You may want to reconsider what you've written. @SpitfireFilly is much more than "a Spitfire historian". She's a well respected historian and former defence lecturer. A board understanding of history helps us inform the present and the future. She's well placed to offer insights

Huge thanks to the wonderful writers & historians who helped/read/commented @RowlandWhite@1940Andy Dr @robert_lyman Prof @LucyGoBag
@mpwarwick@plakaexeitotoui The popular narrative forgets POW re-engaged as you've correctly mentioned and also that Leach declared her operational to Tovey the day she sailed with Hood when she realistically wasn't
In this 1945 British newsreel, tanks are raced across a three-mile, all-terrain course at a proving ground in an undisclosed location. According to the narrator, the course was designed to 'strain the tanks to their utmost'.

Hello mate
I'm hoping you maybe able to assist
I'm head of maintenance at a care home in Devon and I have a resident who turns 100 this year
He's ex tankie and doesn't have his medal that he earned
A colleague and I are busy sorting that and have applied for it.
We took him to the local rememberance last year which was his first actual trip outside the home in years.

28/9/44 to 9/1/48
War medal 39/45
Rather than just handing over his medal once it arrives I'm trying to find someone of seniority in his cap badge that could present it?
He's a good bloke and we'd like to look after him
Our Statement in response to President Trump's comments:
The service and sacrifice of British personnel in Afghanistan cannot be called into question, and we condemn any comments that undermine their extraordinary contribution.
@WeHaveWaysPod POW scored her first hit on Bismarck three minutes after opening fire after firing three partial salvoes. It took Bismarck four minutes and five full salvoes to score her first hit on Hood. POW's gunnery wasn't as bad as has traditionally been made out
@TerryTibbs95@WeHaveWaysPod I think that would have created a miss match. Hood with POW and KGV with Repulse was the best of a bad bunch of options. KGV and Hood would possibly have stood a better chance in the Denmark Strait but there was no guarantee Bismarck would have taken the Strait to break out.
@James1940@WeHaveWaysPod There was a chap called Howard Spence who left Hood shortly before she sailed in May 1941. He arrived home on leave at the same time as a telegram from the Admiralty informing his parents he was missing presumed killed aboard Hood. A few days later the Admiralty sent an apology
