Recap of an incredible night at the 32nd A.B.L.E Scholarship and Awards Gala! 🎉 Huge thanks to the OPP & OPPA and all our sponsors for making it possible! Congrats to our 11 scholarship and 9 award recipients for your amazing achievements! 🌟 #ABLEGALA2024
But like we always do, we will keep fighting because all we want is for our children to get the education that they deserve. As our brother Kola Iluyomade reminds us “It’s not that difficult to treat Black children the same as other children”. #RestInPower https://t.co/DOaS4I9bYI
On the last day of #BHM, here’s a #TBT when @PDSBDirector promised “Kola Iluyomade will be included in the name of the Centre, as a tribute to one of the most passionate community advocates who stood up for social justice & who always put the needs + rights of Black students 1st”
The advocacy of Black parents extends beyond the naming of the Centre, but the Board’s response was the straw that broke the camel’s back. We have endured many false promises and non-committal commitments. While hopeful this will be resolved, we are tired. https://t.co/W8K2NsUiQE
Calling on all community members! Please sign this petition by @AdvocacyPeel to keep Kola Iluyomade's name on the Centre of Black Excellence at @PeelSchools. Parent advocates and community members have ben asking for this for 2 years. Let's make it happen! https://t.co/JVD2x8wFBr
Congratulations to @danielle_dowdy for being awarded the 2021 Citizen of the Year! 🎉🥳
Danielle was in our inaugural DiverseCity Fellows cohort in 2009 and since then has continued to impact change everywhere she goes. We can't wait to see what you can accomplish in the future!
Bramptonians make a difference in our community every day, and the #Brampton Citizens Awards provide us with the opportunity to recognize their passion and contributions.
Congratulations to Danielle Dowdy, 2021 Citizen of the Year!
Happy to share that I have been recognized as the 2021 Brampton Citizen of the Year! I'm overjoyed and tremendously honoured to know that the City that we chose to make our home celebrates and appreciates my contributions in advocacy and activism ❤️❤️❤️

The #Brampton Citizens Awards provide us with the important opportunity to recognize outstanding residents and their contributions as athletes, artists, volunteers and local heroes.
Thank you to our 2021 recipients for their meaningful contributions! https://t.co/SBmBVKIYZU
Add in being an Auntie and advocating for your nieces and nephews, in addition to your own children, and it’s just full blown exhaustion. Dealing with the school board and a handful of schools has become my second full-time (volunteer) job. Why must it be this way? 🥵😪
Black parents should get extra days off work so they can advocate for their children at school. The amount of TIME, EFFORT, ENERGY, RESISTANCE, RESEARCH and PREP involved is just unimaginable. And still I feel like I am dropping the ball sometimes. It's unfair & I am tired.
It was funny to me when I was in grade 2 as well (in the 80s), but I’m glad we’re in a different time and space in society where we recognize how violence was normalized growing up, and how we can and must break these narratives.

My son shared that he had learned the following at school and thought it was really funny:
Trick or Treat
Smell my feet, give me something good to eat
If you don’t
I don’t care
I’ll pull down your underwear
Now I’m here talking to a 6yr old about consent and sexual assault. 😵💫
Today we launch jusTech! Report generation tools, cyber policies and courses on #privacy & #cybersecurity - best of all, it’s all free! Our goal is to help #SmallBusinesses by taking the stress out of an already stressful situation. #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth
The 9 Trustees want to return, based on what exactly? Elapsed time? 🙄It’s quite telling that the 3 women who’ve been most vocal about anti-Black racism and other human rights abuses not sign the letter. @Sflecce pls keep the Supervisor in place, where he continues to be needed!
The majority of trustees at the Peel District School Board signed an open letter to the Minister of Education asking for the ministry supervision of the board to be terminated. @PeelSchools
