Lots of thoughts about this... but one thing is clear, the Liberals would not have kept up the pressure after Matt announced he would resign if they thought they could win this seat. Show of strength, no... a cowardly attempt to consolidate power as the country crumbles.
It was great to bring the family out to the Spencer Historical Society cairn at the Big Gap Round-Up site today in Alberta’s Neutral Hills. As the temperature dipped and we looked out at the landscape, it was impossible not to think about the grit and determination of the pioneers who gathered here over a century ago.
On Family Day, we celebrate not only those around our table today, but the generations who came before us. It serves as a reminder that we come from hard-working, resilient communities like those right here in Battle River–Crowfoot. Our history must be the foundation for our future.
From my family to yours, I hope you are having a wonderful Family Day enjoying the rich history and beauty of our great West.
“A warning for leadership. An image cannot carry contradiction forever. The unexamined performance of virtue exacts a cost, both from the leader and from the community. Sooner or later, what has been hidden makes itself known.”
“When leaders are uncritically celebrated for being servants, those beneath them may be asked to live in dual realities, upholding the myth while navigating the harm.”

Wishing @PierrePoilievre and the thousands of Conservative delegates gathering in Calgary all the best as they come together to debate ideas and make the case for the real change Canada needs.
Our national conservative movement is stronger when we stand together. I am proud to stand with my friend @PierrePoilievre and support his continued leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada.
Appreciate @ConceptualJames shining a light here. He’s right. What happened in Lethbridge is the tip of an iceberg.
I’m going to vent a bit. Please, if you care about kids and are concerned about Canada and the horrific direction it is headed, please re-post this, and demand better from our federal government. I’ve been sleepless, and searching for the right word to describe the anger and frustration I feel knowing that this injustice has happened in my home province, and is happening across this country.
I am truly grieved.
My daughter is 15.
These girls assaulted by Atoa are somebody’s daughter too, and a judge released him.
Releasing a person who forcibly confines, sexually assaults, trafficked and drugs children is completely indefensible, and it’s nowhere near the standards and values which built this country. Honestly, I have a difficult time recognizing Canada anymore.
We used to be known for standing up for those who couldn’t. Now we release child traffickers, child rapists, child sexual abuse material producers and users back into the community.
It is madness, and complete and total moral and societal decay.
50 year old Atoa was forcibly confining and offending against 3 children. The 14-year-old was found inside in medical distress, transported to the hospital, and reported being forcibly confined for three days, during which she was repeatedly sexually assaulted by Atoa and other men while being forced to consume drugs.
Atoa was RELEASED ON BAIL after being charged with:
-Human trafficking (trafficking of a person under 18)
-Sexual assault of a child under 16
-Sexual interference
-Obtaining sexual services of a child for consideration
-Indecent exposure to a child under 16
-Sexual exploitation or counsel of a child
-Three counts of unlawful confinement
He has such little regard for authority and the law that Atoa was re-arrested for breaking his conditions approximately 1/2 HOUR after his release.
There are many decent good-willed Canadians who support @NIMCAlly and @albertacentre_ , as well as our excellent Law Enforcement partners including @lethpolice, but bringing justice to victims and holding perpetrators accountable requires MAJOR justice system reform.
It also requires Canadians to stand up and demand better for our country, and for our children. Please visit https://t.co/R66oHj0S20 and use our free resources to educate yourself on the indicators of human trafficking and to learn what to do when you see it.
Awareness AND action is required. There is hope and a better way. But it will require all of us working together.
One way to show your outrage and demand change is to sign the #NotInMyCity petition to reverse Canada’s Supreme Court decision which erodes and weakens Canada’s laws protecting kids.
Sign the petition, send letters, share widely: https://t.co/BlpNABT0PQ One click makes a difference. Sign, Send & Share. Let’s make Canada safer for kids. #NotInMyCity #JailNotBail #NotwithstandingClause #EndChildTrafficking
This year, my birthday is filled with confusion and deep frustration. Personally, I lack nothing. Yet living in Canada—a country that has long prided itself on upholding democracy and freedom—I find myself witnessing our democratic system being openly disregarded and attacked in broad daylight.
Politicians have publicly abandoned their voters, cast aside the principles they once claimed to uphold, and behaved as though their actions carry no consequences. Without consulting constituents, without regard for public opinion, and without any prior notice, under the solemn institution of the House of Commons, a decision was made to publish the following statement on the Liberal Party’s official website:
“After listening carefully to the people of Markham–Unionville in recent weeks and reflecting with my family on the direction of our country, I have informed the Speaker and the Leader of the Opposition that I will be joining Prime Minister Mark Carney in the government caucus.”
Because I believe deeply in and respect democracy, I also respect every individual’s right to make their own choices—each person must ultimately be accountable for their decisions. However, this act of crossing the floor is not merely a personal choice.
You represent the voices and aspirations of more than 27,000 Conservative voters in Markham–Unionville. Every ballot is sacred. Voters entrusted you with their votes and sent you to the House of Commons to speak on their behalf. This announcement is not simply a matter of switching parties; it is a complete betrayal of the trust placed in you by your constituents and a betrayal of the democratic system that this country is duty-bound to respect.
Even without invoking broader national principles, “integrity toward voters and accountability to voters” should be the most basic requirement of anyone who chooses to enter politics—from the very first day—toward themselves, their constituents, their party, and Canada.
As a Member of Parliament, you did not uphold the commitment you swore to when taking office—to represent voters and defend democracy. Instead, you chose to ignore the democratic system, failed to close its loopholes, and actively trampled on the democracy Canadians hold dear.
I write with such gravity because I have been a victim myself. In 2024, when I announced my candidacy in the same Markham–Unionville riding, throughout the nomination contest and until the conclusion of the 2025 federal election, the RCMP confirmed—supported by findings from the SITE Task Force—and the Department of Foreign Affairs publicly condemned acts of Foreign election interference directed at me, my family, overseas relatives, my campaign volunteers, and the entire election operation. These included threats to our safety, online defamation, surveillance, intimidation, and attacks.
Because I chose to participate in a democratic election and speak for voters in Parliament, my family and I were forced to endure daily isolation, fear, and pressure that outsiders can scarcely comprehend. To this day, the trauma remains.
After experiencing Foreign election interference, I now find myself witnessing people once again placing personal interests above those of citizens and the nation. On my birthday, I and many voters in Markham–Unionville are simultaneously subjected to Internal election interference and betrayal. For my family and me, this constitutes a second psychological injury.
In your announcement on the Liberal Party’s official website, you claim that your decision was supported by your family and constituents. If that is truly the case, why did all of your social media accounts disappear immediately afterward?
During the nomination period, former Liberal MP for Markham–Unionville Paul Chiang—now retired—publicly aligned himself with a Hong Kong national security arrest warrant by calling, at an election press conference, for anyone who turned me over to the Chinese Consulate to receive a 1million-dollar bounty
Don’t take politics so seriously that you can’t have any fun in the midst of it. Kudos to @PierrePoilievre and @22_Minutes for the roast at last nights Annual Press Gallery Dinner.
