@TrendSpider We will gap up on Monday because of the tariff exemption news. We are in a news driven market, has nothing to do with technical analysis at this point
@SJosephBurns not comparable. There was no counterparty buy programs that kicked in and the technology was different back then. The institutions all went through the market makers for most of the trading. Also, I don't think there were circuit breakers so trading got very out of balance.
@kylenabecker There were options on futures that were manually executed in the CBOE and the New York exchanges were not automatically paired with other exchanges instantly so imbalances occurred which made the imbalance worse. Also, I don't think there were circuit breakers either
@kylenabecker . The technology was way different back then. The institutions all went through the market makers for most of the trading back then. Normal volume was 50 million shares or so and volume on the Monday was 500 million if I remember correctly.
@kylenabecker The selling on October 19, 1987 (woah, flashback) was program generated and once it started the selling did not relent as there were no counterparty buy programs that kicked in.
