The goal of the far right is to drive anyone who isn't like them out of social media.
I understand boycotting Twitter or FB if you feel it's the right thing to do.
But I am not going to have what little voice I have in the public sphere removed on the say-so of a bunch of Nazis.
The 'Marty is mid' discourse reminds me that there's nothing I hate more on here than art being treated like sport.
'Bergman? Scorsese has long surpassed Bergman!'
Mate, you can feel that way but it doesn't make it any less stupid of a thing to say than what you're replying to.
Scorsese’s AI bullshit has caused people to do that thing where an artist does something bad and then everyone retroactively decides all their previous work isn’t good and we have to leave that dumbfuckery behind. Just stop. Not every thought needs to be shared
@msloobylou Bowie's deification by the culture at large is extremely instructive in showing how anything interesting, controversial and jagged about important cultural figures gets sanded down and smoothed out so you can write a kid's book about them.
I think a giant imperial military blob with an unwieldy and overfunded warfare state making catastrophic tactical decisions by misusing expensive equipment in unsuitable conditions is among the most believable things in that entire movie
@agraybee *EDIT* Everything since 1980. The cracks REALLY start to show in Return of the Jedi, but it gets by because it's wrapping up a story we've enjoyed.
After "I am your father" the series stopped having interesting places to go, just became endless stories about the same dozen people
@agraybee The original trilogy is actually pretty corny, badly written and ill-thought-through: what stops it from flying apart is the alchemy of its construction: THOSE actors, THAT composer, THAT sound design, THAT villain.
Everything since 1983 has been the definition of winging it.
@fred_beretta His unbrokenly consistent record as a practitioner, patron and cheerleader for the arts and for artists over the span of his entire life?
Just spitballin' here.
@WillSloanEsq QT's podcast (and memoir) cured me of the notion that he has any taste about anything.
A while ago I went through a phase of trying to watch as many of his recommendations as possible.
It was a short phase.
I'm glad HE loves those movies, but Jesus Christ *I* don't have to, do I?
