I don’t know which is worse--pastors who have taken the vow of ignorance ("I know enough and read enough"), the vow of arrogance ("I'm the leader--follow me"), or the vow of significance.
We are called to a life of service, not a life of significance. To serve God is to sanctify time. Participation in God’s mission in the world is the sanctification of time--and a lifetime of sanctified significance. The Word of God nearly always goes against our own grain. It challenges our beliefs and ideas. And it does not make any excuses for doing so.
