I gave evidence in parliament with barbara Hammond @LowCarbonHub, @RebeccaWindemer + @cllrBridget.
It'd be easy to spend a great deal of £ reinforcing the elec grid to transport electricity up and down the country. How can we reduce the need for this? 👇
Last month, CSE’s policy & influence officer, Dan Stone, gave evidence to parliament about electrifying the UK economy, renewables, and grid reinforcement 🔌
Here are his reflections 👇

Quick blog on yesterday's terrifying report on the projected economic impact of climate change. Yes, there are caveats to predictions like this, but equally, the worse case scenarios are worse still. https://t.co/mLER20eFDp
@Adam_Grant_Bell We (@HelloCSE) agree about the need, potential for bun-fighting and cost.
Our question is have we done everything we can to reduce the need to move ⚡️ around? https://t.co/auThDr51gY
@Jordan_W_Taylor Yes, sorry, you’re right. & It is fascinating. speaking with a friend about decarbonisation: She said we won’t need all these chemical industries anymore. We certainly will! The basis of modern society! Just oil as a feedstock rather than fuel..
@jzellis It’s very scary. I hope you’re wrong, but fear you’re not, and am doing all in my power to help make a better future. I have two kids (4 and 7) and to an extent am in denial.
How do you prepare kids for the future that we might have?! What skills / knowledge do they need?
@JomauxJulien Interesting .. I can see in Germany, people are not paid for offering flexible energy use. Similar in uk, only our FIT was entirely cancelled. But we are also not rewarding/ planning for flexibility. See further thoughts: https://t.co/auThDr51gY
@AngelsRBestial@JomauxJulien Agreed. There’s a big risk of a two tiger energy system, with the rich paying LESS for their energy, because of the kit they can afford to use energy flexibly. Relation from gov needed to ensure this doesn’t happen.
@createstreets In no world is this a short thread! But it’s lovely. I want to be there, to walk along those streets and go in those shops. Looks like an amazing quality of life.
@ELPinchbeck Emma, I spoke at a House of Commons session on grid reinforcement. Seems doubtful that this will happen fast enough. We (at Centre for Sustainable Energy) don’t think we’re doing enough to minimise the need to reinforce. See https://t.co/auThDr51gY Hope you find it interesting.
