@DFeuerstein For a very different reason, they need to move to the US along with Montreal and Toronto. Canadian teams should play in Canadian leagues. Not a fan of tax payer fleecing for stadiums.
In the latest Call It What You Want podcast, USMNT Legend Tony Meola explains changes Tab Ramos tried to implement when he was the U.S. U-20 coach but the Federation didn’t comply.
“He insisted on this but this was always pushed back by U.S. Soccer,” Meola began.
“He said, ‘Instead of having our camps all the time in California, in LA on these beautiful fields, why don't we take one camp a year, at least, for each national team and bring them to CONCACAF nations and just go down there for 10 days.’
“And the argument [from the Federation] was always, ‘Well, we can't train well. The fields are terrible down there.’ And his point was, ‘Well, we can't go from this [nice fields in LA] all the time, and then in one day, we fly to wherever and we go play in the worst fields with the worst conditions, hotel stink. You know?’
“Instead, we always brought the youth national teams to LA or to Florida, beautiful hotels, beautiful fields to train on, and then it's like, when you get to the senior team, it's like, holy sh*t. It's a shock when you go down there.
“Like, what do you mean I can't drink the water? What does that mean?
“I remember we were sat in Sarasota, Florida, in the hotel. Like it’s beautiful posh hotel, right by the water, and we were having this argument with somebody at U.S. Soccer.
“He looked around the table, and this is when we didn't say anything at these meetings. And he's like, ‘Well, what do you think?’
“And now you got, like, three guys from U.S. Soccer sitting over there, and Des McAleenan, who has since passed, was the goalkeeper coach, and he was there too.
“I'm like, I agree 100% with Tab. And Des was like, I agree 100% with Tab. And of course, next year, when the schedule came out, no teams went down.” 😂
Do you want to see Tab Ramos back in U.S. Soccer as a coach or a director? 👀

MLS is a single entity where each team ownership is a Member of the LLC. The league has in the past also had 3rd parties own stakes in the league and/or Soccer United Marketing (its own marketing company). All player contracts/checks are owned by and paid from the league, not the team. Hence the single entity.
USL is a league (wholly owned by different owners and separate from individual club owners). The clubs are members of the league but do not own or control the league. Player contracts are direct with the club but the rev share (if any) between league and club is controlled entirely by the league.
