I also wanted to dive into game development this year, but it seems like that will have to wait for now. I think the five other projects I'm currently working on are more than enough for me...
The start of the year feels unusually unproductive for me. Everything takes so much effort. I have to push myself to work on one thing or another. For example, this scene - it's a few hours of work, but in the end, I spent several days on it, working bit by bit.
My work has been reviewed. I was offered to make a few edits. You can compare it with the previous version. This is why I always recommend taking courses or finding a mentor rather than studying something on your own.
Right now, I'm a bit worried about my MacBook - it was making a lot of noise while rendering this small scene, and in two months, I'll have to render a video!
I started taking a short course on Blender. I already shared the first version of this scene, but I had to make some small changes after review from my teacher.
Well, the holidays are over, and it's time to get back to work. Although I did work a little last week, it's still kind of hard to get back into the usual work rhythm.
In addition to getting more familiar with game dev, I decided to dedicate almost the entire next year to art courses. Well, not just drawing specifically. To start, I decided to explore the basics of 3D. Here’s the result of my first work (before any feedback from the teacher)
I'll probably stop here for now. I've barely done half of what I planned. You can't even play in it yet :)
Nevertheless, I've gotten familiar with some basics, and next time (in two weeks), the process should go a bit smoother.
Well, it's a bit better now. Though, it's unlikely I'll manage to make something playable in the remaining day. A lot of time is spent getting familiar with the basics. Still, I'm slowly starting to make progress. I think next time, the process will become much easier.
The theme of the current Mini Jam is Defense. I decided to implement a mechanic from the Tower Defense genre. Right now, I’m working on the basics, but here’s what I’ve managed to create so far. If I can make something playable, I’ll definitely share the game.
One of my plans for 2025 is to get more familiar with game dev. I’m not planning to fully switch to this field, but I’ve been eyeing game dev for a while now, and I’d like to create something of my own. However, there are some challenges with that.
I discovered Mini Jam, a 3-day game jam held every 2 weeks. I decided to start participating in them to try implementing different game mechanics. Who knows, maybe along the way, I’ll also get some clarity about my own project.
I came up with a grand plan for 2025. So I'll make a couple more posts with hands and then move on to implementing the outlined plan (I'll share more about it later)
Also, my Photoshop subscription is about to expire, and I won't have the money to renew it in the coming weeks 😅
