@Pakzadesque Hi Poya. Those were indeed heady times and I always appreciated your participation. My scholarship moved on from Iran to less controversial things, and I just haven’t kept the blog as active as I should.
For the record:
A war of aggression against Iran, in violation of the UN Charter and basic tenets of international law, and in the absence of any imminent threat or concrete evidence from international inspection bodies and intelligence agencies of the existence of an Iranian military nuclear program…
A war that is being waged by two nuclear weapon states (one of which is outside the nuclear arms control regime #NPT) possessing thousands of nuclear weapons...
A war that clearly brings to mind the catastrophic war on #Iraq, a war based on deception and in violation of all international inspection reports stating the absence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq …
A war that is taking place against the backdrop of a total paralysis of the Security Council and obscene double standards by those who trumpet a rule based system…
A war that will add a huge blow to the international order, international law and institutions including the Nuclear Nonproliferation Regime …
A war that will likely have devastating effects on the peace and stability of region and its people…
Lasting peace can only be achieved through justice, mutual security and dialogue.

As someone who has spent his entire career in politics , an international lawyer, and a human being who cares deeply about peace and human dignity and the legacy we’re going to leave to our grandchildren , I am heart broken to witness the vicious destruction of all the rules on the non use of force that were put in place over many decades and through many wars to try, in the language of the #UN Charter, to “save succeeding generations from the scourge of war” …
What I see now is a steady move toward the bygone era of “might is right” and the obscene displays of double standards in favor of myopic interests , especially by the ones who have presented themselves as custodians of the Rule of Law
All I can do is to remind those “small” men and women that they might win a battle or two but that humanity will eventually lose the war!
I will look with keen interest on whether 🇪🇺 today refers to international law in what it will say on the 🇮🇱🇺🇸 strikes on 🇮🇷. The 🇬🇧🇫🇷🇩🇪 statement was remarkable for completely ignoring the subject. I hope they understand that by being blind on this issue they undermine their position also on 🇷🇺 war against 🇺🇦. Might must not be right.
So now it is unclear where Iran’s HEU is & it is unclear where all of Iran’s centrifuges are.
A few hundred advanced centrifuges at a small covert site plus 60 percent enriched uranium & Iran could breakout quickly.
US strikes did not “solve” the nonproliferation threat.
Would not be surprised by withdrawal from NPT and CSA, then just silence about their nuclear program. Never say another word about it. That would put them on the same footing as Israel. Build a small arsenal for deterrence secretly. Say they will rejoin the NPT when Israel joins.

Without even reaching a conclusion to Act I of the #Israel’s war on #Iran, the stage is set for an open ended #nuclear#safeguards quagmire that will change how the #IAEA operates indefinitely #OOTT

Why should the Iran trust ANYTHING Trump says? He was against bombing Iran before he was prez, he withdrew from the JCPOA in his 1st term, then wanted talks on a new deal in his 2nd until Bibi suckered him into short-circuiting diplomacy and bombing Iran.

Language suggests that Iran is laying the groundwork for NPT withdrawal, which would not be surprising.
And withdrawing after an attack may give Iran more sympathy.
Now this is worth paying attention to: the invocation of NPT/Safeguards Agreement as having been violated.
Many of us have long assessed that Iran would respond, in part, to an attack by withdrawing from the NPT. As noted earlier, Iran has been preparing the argument...
@davidfrum You must not talk with a lot of international law people. Any serious international law expert will tell you that the 2003 war in Iraq led by the United States was a violation of international law.
