Modern liberals say they support capitalism and oppose socialism, then favor nationalizing the largest sector of the economy. The contradiction doesn't register because there's no coherent framework underneath -- just vibes with post-hoc justifications.
@sleepy_devo@JustinHall0711 And maybe this is just me, but I don't think "free market" means zero government involvement. It just means government doesn't block the mechanisms that make markets work. In healthcare it currently does exactly that.
@sleepy_devo@JustinHall0711 And we don't have to speculate. Every deregulated margin in healthcare produces lower prices and more access. Lasik. Cash-pay primary care. Generics. The pattern is consistent.
@sleepy_devo@JustinHall0711 Asymmetric information is everywhere. We don't nationalize auto repair -- we get Yelp, warranties, liability, etc. Free markets handle this problem fine.
Government monopoly doesn't close the knowledge gap, it just removes the penalty for getting it wrong.
@sleepy_devo@JustinHall0711 The knowledge problem is an argument against central planning, not against free markets.
The great thing about free markets is that failures have a self-correction mechanism called competition and consumer choice. Much harder to fix government failures.
@sleepy_devo@JustinHall0711 Free market healthcare is how you put patients in control of healthcare outcomes.
Government Monopoly is how you put bureaucrats and lobbyists in control of healthcare outcomes.
@habib2001@nickgillespie I guess you should support one of the winning parties that continues to pile up debt for your children and grandchildren to pay off. At least you can call yourself a winner while you're paying more for everything.
