@Brady_H 5K trumps the 10K for me. It requires the same aerobic base to excel but it also requires training to address fast twitch and speed. And the concept of “parkrun” makes it universally available
@BrynRunning@stevemagness I agree. But Bell is also replacing quality run sessions and her long run with cycling equivalents and not just augmenting her weekly volume. And crushing it! Intriguing
@hjluks This is especially important. Lots of easy volume is the ticket following illness, surgery or other related setbacks. I find my Oura ring to be a pretty good barometer of where I’m at
@feelthebyrn1@StephenSeiler Thanks. I’m mostly focused on middle distance and distance running (tho I will do a tri this summer). I’m trying to better understand how to optimize my training and in particular if I can make gains by incorporating some double threshold sessions where the second is via cycling
@Michael_Easter@Brady_H@Alan_Couzens@feelthebyrn1 Garmin Forerunner 955
Polar Verity Sense bicep HR monitor
Altra Vanish 2 shoes
Nuun lemon lime electrolyte tablets
A home bike trainer (Peloton Bike+)
A wobble board
@hjluks Fantastic summary. I’m 66 and live by these themes. Plus 6 days per week of run/bike/elliptical endurance training. And I ran 36:15 for 10K last summer
@stevemagness For me a consistent yearly pattern of outcome goals totally affects my process so I’m a little unclear on these distinctions or whether they are independent
@GuruAnaerobic@brady_h I typically run every other day and do a decent volume of z1/z2 cross training (elliptical & cycling) on my non-run days, so ~25 miles/week of running. A couple of resistance days too
