A response to a mental health crisis call in Albuquerque turned deadly when officers were cornered in a narrow apartment breezeway.

When officers deployed a Taser, the suspect used a knife attached to a 6-foot pole to slice through the Taser wires and kept charging toward them—leaving officers trapped in the enclosed hallway with no room to retreat.

According to official reports, the suspect's family had called 911 during a severe mental health crisis. Authorities later ruled the use of force legally justified given the immediate, life-threatening situation in close quarters.
