“We will see the collapse of the global economy” -- @Sir_David_King
The #climatecrisis will devastate some of the world’s largest and most prosperous cities, with far-reaching consequences.
This will begin to happen within 5-10 years, unless we act now.
Canada 🇨🇦 has done it again...
We just observed the hottest December day on record in British Columbia. Tying the all-time national Canadian December highest temperature.
This weather station beat its previous December record by a monstrous 8°C. Jeepers.
Living within planetary boundaries means on a basic level: 1) seeking to live with nature, not policing it, 2) living more locally in every aspect of our lives, whether that’s food, work, social, holidays etc, 3) dramatically reducing our consumption of goods and services,
"The GDP figures we’re using to measure economic success also measure the rate at which we're barrelling towards climate catastrophe"
I set out the case for moving to a #WellbeingEconomy in first-ever Commons debate on the issue
To be clear, we must change our growth mindset to one of sufficiency, trying to understand what is sustainable. In other words we need to live within our planetary boundaries. https://t.co/UYH179ZKgS
Good grief. This afternoon, the Home Office just slipped even more amendments into the Police Bill - too late for proper parliamentary scrutiny. They include this one, clearly aimed at @XRebellionUK.
They are shutting down our freedoms, in batches.
Three Decades of Climate Mitigation
What have we achieved?
* 60% rise in fossil CO₂ emissions
* Half of all fossil CO₂ emitted (since 1990)
* Developed countries dominate CO₂ emissions per person
Read why... https://t.co/w9ZVNONHRx
Had the pleasure of having @KevinClimate at @arup Manchester office delivering the same talk (but with Uk context). The upshot: we need to seriously look at the IPCC carbon budget which, when accounting for equity shows we have 8-14yrs GHG emissions left.
The OECD continues to have much higher fossil CO₂ emissions per person then the non-OECD, despite declines in the last decade.
Also worth noting global emissions per person have not changed much since the 1980s (only increased during the 2000s when China grew rapidly).
Happy 125th Anniversary to @TheBplTower. From structural inspections via rope access to advising on the tower’s refurbishment, we’re helping to ensure that this northern icon continues to delight locals and visitors for years to come! @BpoolCouncil
Congratulations to @danm_green and @GregHardie on winning the small project at at the @IStructE NW Regional Group awards for the @School_of_MACE demonstration bridges
