@GailSimone Read an article recently about how people like Musk completely misunderstand—and identify with—characters like Judge Dredd, The Punisher, Tony Soprano, etc.
@DrPopCultureUSA Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was partly set in my hometown of Rockville Centre, NY. The Jim Carrey character even lived on an actual street there. But my suburban Long Island village looked more like Queens in the movie.
@2G1Reviews@DCOfficial I’d buy it! (Because I’m not sure they’d send it to me.)
I’d also love to see the Amethyst maxi-series collected in color (it only had a black & white Showcase edition, and nobody liked my idea of selling it with a pack of colored pencils).
@MrWillHenry Years ago, there was a snowmobiling magazine that could have been called Snow Track, but they thought it was cooler as SNO TRAK, which they put on the cover with no space. Meaning it would easily be read as SNOT RAK…which they didn’t realize till the first issue came out.
According to @BillScher, @pewresearch’s mention of a possible bi-national state in Israel/Palestine is "weird." True, it seems less realistic now than when Peter Beinart wrote this essay 4 years ago, but it shouldn’t be dismissed as a long-term goal, IMO. https://t.co/eihlvJ5Ndh
@cwarzel On vacations with our kids in the 80s and 90s, I frequently reminded them (only about a quarter jokingly) that it was more important to have a good photographic record than a good time. Falsification has never been absent from picture-taking.
@dsantat I think the answer is No, no one can explain it to you.
Are you on Bluesky, Dan? So far, it’s a sane, enjoyable space. I can send you an invite code if you’d like.
The idea that Ds should have bailed out McCarthy is a codicil of the larger logic of DC punditry in which R bad behavior/destruction is assumed, a baseline like weather, and Ds managing the consequences of that behavior is a given. It’s part of DC being hardwired for the GOP.
@MrWillHenry I've had that experience with some of the comic book series I've written -- no idea where the story is going until it gets there. (And sometimes I'm even impressed with the writer 😊.)
@StingingMonkey@MrWillHenry I hope that someday we'll see Wallace get the same treatment Fantagraphics is currently giving Pogo, still my favorite strip of all time. (Sorry, Will.)
While laid up with a busted shoulder. I’ve reread the entire run of Wallace the Brave by @MrWillHenry. It’s magnificent and already a classic, IMO. Now it just needs to be collected in full, not just the otherwise swell books that skip over so many great strips. Read on GoComics!
@MrWillHenry@StingingMonkey Maybe collect all of the Sterling "origin stories"! Yeah, not enough for a book, I know, but about 2/3 of the way through my reread, I wished I'd written down all the dates.
