@benwehrman you can disprove this with a laser, a piece of wood and flat land. mark 5’ on the wood, now have a 5 foot tripod. plant the wood around 500 metres away, if your laser is powerful enough you’ll see that when both placed at 5’ - the laser is above the mark - due to curvature.
