🌍 As Kenya positions itself in the global economy, creating an enabling business environment is critical for driving economic growth!
Session 7 #pfmVillage at #PDF2025, moderated by @dannyasimi from @InfobipDev, explored how private sector actors can be pivotal in enhancing public finance management and supporting sustainable development in 🇰🇪.
📌 Key Insights from the panelists were:
🗣 Mr. Joseph Kimani from @denmarkinkenya described Kenya's mixed engagement with local partners, highlighting bureaucratic hurdles and a lack of transparency as significant barriers to attracting foreign investments.
He emphasized the need for a zero-tolerance approach to corruption and the establishment of a merit-based system that fosters collaboration between businesses and government.
🗣Mr. Odeny Peter Kagia from @apseakenya underscored the essential role of professional associations in shaping fiscal policies and regulations. He urged these bodies to take a proactive stance, engaging with stakeholders early in the policy development process to ensure their voices are heard and to advocate for regulations that benefit both businesses and the public.
🗣@DianaSifuna, CEO @JJFoundationKE, highlighted the crucial role of philanthropic organizations in driving youth empowerment and economic engagement through initiatives like the Bizna Mtaani Program.
She stressed that effective engagement requires clear and organized efforts, allowing philanthropic endeavors to demonstrate tangible, impact-driven returns on investment.
🗣Faith Atiti from @DTBKenya discussed the financial sector's limitations in participating in civic initiatives, citing regulatory constraints.
She encouraged businesses and community members to form organized collectives, which would facilitate better dialogue and project implementation, allowing broader participation in public finance matters.
🗣Vincent Ogaya from @KenyaCIC criticized the tendency to deprioritize environmental issues in business policymaking, advocating for a comprehensive approach that integrates climate considerations into economic strategies.
He warned that innovation must precede policy adjustments, as the current legal and tax regimes often stifle business growth, especially within the informal economy.
The key outcome of Session 7 is clear: To attract investors and stimulate economic growth, Kenya must establish predictable legal and policy frameworks, reorient its diplomatic efforts to prioritize business engagement, and empower the private sector to integrate sustainability and philanthropy into their strategies.
Multisectoral collaboration is imperative to cultivate a business environment that nurtures innovation, supports MSMEs, and paves the way for a sustainable future!
