Inside Downing Street, the Keir Starmer era has begun. The new Prime Minister won a landslide and is promising "national renewal".
This afternoon he set to work, appointing his new Cabinet, with a majority which should provide him with a political blank cheque. But is this the "Loveless Landslide"? Turnout is the lowest for two decades and the contradictions of our voting system have again been laid bare: only 1 in 3 voters, chose Labour - and its overall share of the vote, has barely changed since Jeremy Corbyn's crushing defeat in 2019.
One thing is for certain: people wanted the Conservatives out. Rishi Sunak, minutes before standing down, spoke of the public's anger and disappointment with his Party. Despite some apocalyptic predictions though, they remain the official opposition and the Tories now find themselves at a crossroads.
Two parties - benefited hugely from that anger and disappointment. Ed Davey's Lib Dems - winning a record number of seats - and Nigel Farage's Reform, who now have a permanent base, with 5 seats, right here in Westminster.
As for the state of the wider United Kingdom - Scotland's place within it, appears stronger tonight. The SNP collapsed, its leader John Swinney, admitting Scottish voters, no longer prioritise independence.
But as one referendum moves further away, in Northern Ireland - a vote on Irish unity could be closer: Sinn Fein won the most seats at Westminster, for the first time.
And we also witnessed the night of the Gaza Independents. Labour's position on the war in the Middle East, has cost it at least five seats. Big names in Starmer's party, were also nearly toppled.
We often hear about the importance of Parliamentary arithmetic - and Labour's sizeable majority should make governing easier than his recent predecessors in Number 10.
But one thing is clear: Keir Starmer's promise of "national renewal" will not be an easy one to deliver.

🗣️ Andy Burnham, Mayor of Manchester:
“Go to East Manchester now, and look at photographs of it from 30 years ago, and a large amount of the investment has come from the owners of Manchester City. They’ve been huge partners for the city and they’ve improved a lot of lives here.”
This photo is already English football history. Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu, 29 years old, making his Premier League debut with Luton.
He is the first footballer in history who, with the same team, rose from the fifth to the English first division. There were a total of 4 promotions in 9 years. Amassing more than 300 appearances.
When he arrived at Luton they trained in a public park. Now, he will play at Old Trafford, Anfield, Etihad, Emirates and so on. The footballer who completed football.
