The Palisades Fire moved in so quickly, evacuees panicked. Every car represents someone or a family that, in fear, abandoned their cars, and fled on foot. The wind could reach 100 mph tonight.
Huge fire in Pasadena/SGV and sirens are going off every minute. Trees and trash cans are blocking roadways as the wind is hurtling.
The last time I remember the winds being this bad was in elementary school and school was closed for a few days because trees hit the power lines.
Ever since we were ELECTED to provide transparency & accountability to City Hall 🔎, our Office has come under constant attack by City Hall:
- They cut our budget/job positions
- They're trying to weaken our powers and/or give them to others
We won't back down. Stay tuned! 📢
Extremely proud of the @latguild. The first union-organized work stoppage in the paper’s 142-year history happened today. Out of necessity. Out of survival. Some of the finest journalism in the country comes out of this newsroom. We all must do what we can to protect them.
Today Los Angeles Unified provided updated wage proposals to our labor partners, including SEIU Local 99 and UTLA, as well as an updated class-size reduction proposal. To view the updated proposals please visit https://t.co/w9y5Sd2yJh
I wrote about LA Councilmembers physically attacking protesters, telling them “f*ck” you, calling them terrorists, and how this behavior by elected officials should be way more troubling to you than combative, rude protest tactics. https://t.co/w3pGRcV4ZX
The senate just voted 30-3 in support of our bill forgiving parking tickets for people who are unhoused living in their vehicle.
We can’t penalize our way out of poverty.
I’m grateful my colleagues agree.
Chinatown community activists in Los Angeles with @ccedLA just disrupted gentrifier event ‘Chinatown Summer Nights’ by the Business Improvement District and ran into its executive director George Yu who was so aggressive lunging toward us he got led out by his OWN security
With the expansion of 41.18 passing today:
- Homelessness is illegal in approximately 20% of the City of LA
- In District 1 specifically, homelessness is illegal in 48% of CD1
- Unhoused people can get swept, fined, or arrested for being unhoused
- Moves encampments a block over
They thought they could wear us down by dragging this out. The people here demanding City Council #Repeal4118 are out there every day keeping each other alive on these streets. We aren’t tired. We’re ready.
Here’s the moment @JoeBuscaino gave up trying to talk and realized that no one in council chambers wanted to hear him speak.
1% Joe. Huge loser energy.
Shut it down @NoSweepsLA! #Repeal4118
Melissa Acevado, founder of @polospantry, tells city council and president @CD6Nury that activists have been doing their jobs for them, which is true. Mel and @nicole_d14 definitely made more meals in 2020 than the city of LA.
Listen to @mellemusic: #Repeal4118
It's been a while since I've posted an update on deaths of people experiencing homelessness in LA County.
Prelim info from @lacountymec (via @tso_phoenix):
At least 150 deaths in Feb (up from 105 in Feb '21)
At least 145 deaths in March (up from 114 in March '21)
.@MitchOFarrell - VOTE NO on the 41.18 amendment. 41.18 is bad policy and must be repealed altogether. The new amendment will do nothing to reduce unsheltered homelessness across Los Angeles and will be devastating to the lives of the unhoused. #Repeal4118#ServicesNotSweeps
