Once handed my 7 y/o Pokémon collecting niece my TCG binders and told her to pick 2. Dozens of cards among them worth a hair-curling amount of cash.

She pored over those binders for hours, a wonderous sparkle in her eyes. She wasn't thinking anything about their value or what she could sell them for in 5 years. She was genuinely enamored with the cards themselves, to the point that her final choices amounted to a paltry $30 out of my pocket.

Had she asked for a grail, it would be hers. Instead, she chose cards that seemed interesting to her own tastes. A priceless experience I was glad to share with her.

The worst thing anyone could have done that day was talk about "investments" and "value". A cheap lesson about "asset management" would have prematurely scarred the pure and whimsical attitude she held towards the hobby.
