How time flies! I wrote this about Spain just after the Sydney Olympics in 2000 - when their U23s won silver behind Cameroon.

An AI system recently out-diagnosed physicians across 29 of 32 categories in a controlled study. In some emergency cases it roughly doubled the doctors' scores.

Read that again. In one of the most credentialed professions on earth, the machine is now competitive with the expert.

Now hold the second finding next to it. Ordinary patients using an AI chatbot did no better than patients using a plain search engine. They could not tell the accurate answers from the confident wrong ones.

Same tool. Superb in trained hands. Useless in untrained ones.

That gap is the whole story of this decade.

AI does not replace the professional. It replaces the professional who refuses to use it, and it multiplies the one who learns.

The skill is not prompting. It is judgment. Knowing which confident answer is quietly wrong.

Ask yourself which one you are becoming.

I am going to make a bold prediction here.

Within 1-3 years (max), these AI companies will buy up the energy companies.

For instance, SpaceX will buy Shell or Nvidia will buy Chevron, etc.

They will swallow them whole as they quickly realize the need to secure energy supplies for data centers to keep their growth going.

Energy companies used to be the big dog for most of the 20th century. Their dominance ended over 15 years ago when Apple surpassed ExxonMobil's valuation.

They have diminished (relative to tech) ever since. It is time for tech to complete the humiliation by swallowing them up.

ConocoPhillips will be the "Energy division" for, say, Google.
