Pride month is drawing to a close so - Even if I don't use this account actively I have wanted to more definitively come out as trans π³οΈββ§οΈπ³οΈββ§οΈ
I've identified sort of openly as such for a couple years and I'm still figuring bits out, but it's worth cheering about now and then π
So uh, yeah! Just something minor I've wanted to do for a bit. I do go by they/she pronouns, even if I don't shout about it because I hate to have focus on me. Which is also why this post is awkward π₯²
Happy pride month π³οΈββ§οΈπ³οΈββ§οΈ

Whilst it's brought some stress to some aspects of my life I am so much happier now and it's only made me more determined to keep making things better in the industry for everyone, and to remove barriers on public services where I can (please no more title field dropdowns π₯²)
Bittersweet news, I'm taking a break from the public sector for a while! It's been a fulfilling experience but an offer came up that made me reflect and realise I needed a break :D
I enjoyed my time at GDS greatly, and am proud to have been part of https://t.co/rdNYzXr20T Forms
Given the rise in scams over the last 18 months or so around covid it's really frustrating to see a mandatory service like this stuck training people to trust websites that look incredibly illegitimate and to hand over their personal details.
Not great
It's really disappointing that this is still the case - and that the service still looks 'govuk but not quite', and the confirmation email comes from "cesvotes. com"
Getting a letter to register to vote on "https://t.co/O8NVRkl0Vg", which takes me to a "https://t.co/rdNYzXr20T design system but not quite" page is really not okay - it trains people to hand over personal details to a non https://t.co/uNZyKTA6Uy domain... 1/2
@craigjbass@ClareSudbery@ShaftManlike Don't forget if the JavaScript simply fails to load due to a network issues, third party extensions blocking JavaScript, and others.
This gives a good summary I always like pointing to

@HimalMandalia Yeah I've found that even as a developer on a team - you _have_ to be working in a way that lets you be aware of the wider org challenges and be flexible to those challenges in how you build stuff. Tech is always the easy part whenever it turns up π
@technoir15@craigjbass Yeah - I think people assume experience with Framework means you can get onboarded to code faster, but in my experience the things that always take the longest is never understanding code, its understanding the domain
Arguably some frameworks make it harder to learn the domain
@craigjbass Ye that's the only reason I'd do it - collaborating on tests + verifying them with domain experts is great. We found it useful for breaking down some really gnarly business logic - but otherwise... Oof. Maintaining those tests is rough going
@craigjbass @rbs_tito I think part of it is as a result of the weird atmosphere of like... "Don't talk to the team you'll distract them so just open a ticket" and it always feels a little off - having a chat is way easier because you'll probably need to have a chat _anyway_
