my thoughts during the quarantine have swung widely from very silly to shockingly depressed, much like questions on the 2013 Junior Cert. Home Economics exam.
two movies that play with the ephemeral nature of time and memory through structure and using non-linearity to different degrees while being shot on 35mm film? of course Nolan loves them lol lol
I have a lot of thoughts about the Pitchfork news, and I’d like to share them here! 🧵1/?

After weeks of work, almost 10000 words, and a platinum trophy, my new video has just gone live
This is “The crucifixion of Joshua Stephenson and Faith Healing: A Cyberpunk 2077 Video Essay”
At over half an hour long, it’s my biggest video so far

"Better Call Saul" has set an unfortunate Emmys record for most losses ever. It received 53 Emmy nominations during its run and never won a single one. https://t.co/qiDIgZSIGf
Here's an ULTRAKILL Layer 7 review, for your sins.
"ULTRAKILL is the FPS you imagined your cool older brother was playing in the 90’s... ULTRAKILL bathes us in the failure of blood."

“The habit of thinking prevents us at times from experiencing reality, immunises us against it, makes it seem no more than another thought. There is no idea that does not carry in itself its possible refutation, no word that does not imply its opposite.”
— Proust, The Fugitive
Watched "Past Lives" on the plane. It was wonderful! It was heartbreaking from start, and even though it almost tore me up in the middle, it gave me positive strength in the end! If I had seen this movie last year, it would have been in my top 10!
"PAST LIVES", translated as "in-yun" in Korean and "past lives" in the subtitles. What is the Japanese word for "destiny" or "fate" as it relates to reincarnation, I guess. It seems to be a different nuance from fate.
At any rate, the director, Celine Song, is very good at cutting frames and directing the camera! I look forward to seeing her future work: the scene in the park where the two meet for the first time in 24 years, the side-by-side scene in the bar where the three of them gather, which is also introduced at the beginning of the film, and the final one-shot scene on the sidewalk. The camera, rather than dialogue, frames the emotions and sentiments. This is what cinema is all about. The loss of the past, the sincere look into the future without denying it. This film is not only a story about first love, but also about people who go "out" and is a beautiful film that spins a more fundamental story of several people's lives and a world that transcends countries and languages. It is a masterpiece.
It’s coming to theaters in Japan in April.
