@DunnRobbiepdunn Yeah will do, hoping to get up there for work at some point. I haven’t gigged since before the pandemic but been very busy with life in general since then. Take care and chat soon!
Another 15 weeks have passed; time now for #801 - #900 on the #1001AlbumsGenerator. Straight up I have to mention the album Nowhere by Ride. Its opening track, Seagull, was a surf rock masterpiece with an incredible outro, a 5★ song right off the bat.
@DunnRobbiepdunn Hey Robbie, good to hear from you, hope you’re still well in Brisbane. I spent a decade in Canada and got back to Sydney last year. All well here thanks!
I was surprised to not enjoy either of Tim Buckley’s offerings on the list. “Mannered intensity” was the best phrase I could find to describe him. At this stage I’m sick of The Smiths / Morrissey. I wanted to like Cheap Trick’s At Budokan but it turned out boring in the end.
And now for #701 - #800 on the #1001AlbumsGenerator. There were a few 5★ scores, namely Buckley’s Grace, Led Zep’s IV, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus (Breathless is a PHENOMENAL track) and The Waterboys’ Fisherman’s Blues.
Finally, I laughed at the serendipity of hearing Peter Gabriel’s Here Comes The Flood from his self-titled album during a literal flood. Also Solsbury Hill from that same album is a banger. I love its use of 7/4 where the accent changes between the instrumental hook & the verse.
