Science, Art and Design. Dan’s DNA uses the science of DNA sequencing to create art and nerdy designs. Daniel Wallace, Senior Lecturer and Researcher at QUT
Green Fluorescent Protein has contributed immensely to biological and medical research and was originally isolated from the bioluminescent jellyfish Aequoria victoria. Check out my new artwork “GFP Jellyfish” that celebrates this important molecule.…https://t.co/DvSxOy3RPc
Check out my recent DNA dot-to-dot artwork made from the sequence of the human ATP7B gene, the gene affected in Wilson disease, a hereditary copper overload disorder.

The artist, A/Prof Dan Wallace, is a Senior Lecturer & medical researcher at QUT. He teaches molecular biology & genetics. #haemochromatosis#ironoverload
I am pleased to report that I was promoted to Associate Professor this week! Thanks to those who have supported and mentored me over the years, all the colleagues I have worked with and the many students I have had the pleasure of teaching. You have all helped make this possible!
Check out my new DNA dot-to-dot artwork: "HFE the rusty cog" made from the sequence of the #haemochromatosis gene and featuring the 2 main mutations associated with the genetic iron overload disorder. https://t.co/SgqfOMmniZ
That’s me on the right, being interviewed by Channel 9 News this morning at the Overload Art Exhibition - raising awareness for #haemochromatosis#WHW2022
Have you had a chance to look at our OVERLOAD art exhibition yet? It can be seen both online https://t.co/6cZnoMaL5X & in the Gold Coast University Hospital foyer.

This morning Ch9 News came to visit OVERLOAD & speak with two of the artists.

#QUT genetic researcher Dr Dan Wallace transformed his #DNA sequence chromatograms into artworks to raise funds and awareness of haemochromatosis - an underdiagnosed and life-threatening iron overload disorder. #WHW2022 @QUT_Genomics @dansdnadesigns https://t.co/14nTjk9RiX
So what happens when your body throws an “all-you-can-absorb” iron party?

World Haemochromatosis Week starts on 1 June. Here is @Science_Academy - how understanding symptoms & family history can help treat #haemochromatosis. #WHW2022@OlynykJohn

Two years on from the start of the coronavirus pandemic I have created a new artwork that features sequences from the SARS-CoV-2 virus, as well as 3 of its most well known variants: alpha, delta and omicron. To find out more check out: https://t.co/YkzQGGL29u
If anyone is interested in studying for a Masters or PhD in my lab please let me know. There are scholarships available through QUT’s Centre for Genomics and Personalised Health… https://t.co/Ipb0TpyKCG
I am researching the molecular basis of the genetic copper overload disorder Wilson Disease. With funding from the @nhmrc we would have been able to search for more effective drugs for this debilitating disease. #AdvanceAustraliaCare#auspol@TheASMR1 @GregHuntMP
It is day 4 of World Haemochromatosis Week. I made these 2 infographics in an attempt to simplify the science behind haemochromatosis and explain how the underlying genetic defect causes the body to absorb excess iron. I hope you like them.
