🚨🗣️ Gary Neville on the Neco Williams goal:
“VAR has changed the game, and not in a positive way. You see a goal like that and suddenly there’s a search for any possible reason to rule it out. Instead of celebrating the football, everyone is waiting for VAR.
Sometimes it feels like the technology is protecting teams rather than helping the game. We’ve reached a point where every goal is treated like a crime scene, looking for the smallest detail that can change the decision.
Football is supposed to be about instinct, emotion and the big moments. But VAR has taken some of that away. Players score, fans celebrate, and then everyone just stands around waiting for someone in a room miles away to decide whether they’re allowed to celebrate.
We need to seriously ask whether VAR is actually improving football. Because if the technology keeps taking away the excitement and turning every decision into controversy, then something has gone badly wrong.
@GeordieJord@RichySouthern My Mrs cried at full time and she’s a Wigan fan. There’s just something about us, it gets under your skin. I’m still in a state now 🤣
@bensprattjourn They never realistically had the capital to be able to fund the football side of things for long. No way they’d be able to finance even a small percentage of a stadium rebuild/renovation and training ground etc. I’m surprised at how many people are shocked at the news
@bensprattjourn The fact that so much of it is playing out in the media makes me think something completely different is going on. Reports being leaked ready for the stadium name to be changed wouldn’t surprise me. They know people won’t be pleased but would rather that than lose AG, BG or AI 🤷🏻♂️
