The Governor of the Bank of Namibia, Mr Ebson Uanguta, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Bankers’ Association of Namibia, Ms Dantagos Jimmy-Melani, held a courtesy engagement to discuss areas of shared strategic interest within Namibia’s financial system. During the visit, the Governor presented the Bank’s priorities for the year ahead and emphasised a focus on strengthening the institution’s long-term sustainability and enhancing its readiness to support Namibia’s transition to a new economy, in line with the Bank’s mandate to maintain price and financial stability.
The discussion covered areas such as advancing smart regulation, improving transparency around banking fees and charges, expanding instant payment systems, supporting localisation, and strengthening the integration of climate change and green finance considerations into the financial system.
Ms. Jimmy-Melani noted BAN's continued support for the Bank of Namibia and noted that the banking sector has full confidence in the central bank as it advances these areas of focus. Both parties also highlighted the importance of ongoing cooperation between the Bank of Namibia and the banking industry in strengthening financial stability while supporting innovation, financial inclusion, and sustainable economic growth.
