It’s not luck that Australia has one of the strongest biosecurity systems globally. Australian science is reducing the threat of pests and diseases that damage our economy and way of life.
This election, we're explaining how politicians' campaign remarks highlight the importance of science and research—even when they may not realise it.

I studied at university but my own Mum was not afforded the same opportunity as me. She did eventually attend university much later in life doing post-graduate nursing and finished her career helping others to become nurses. Today, it is my aspiration for all Australians to have the opportunity that I did to attend university. @uniaus@PressClubAust

I'm excited to announce that I sat down - remotely - with an old mate and former colleague, @philmcraig, for a detailed discussion about my book, Meadow's Law, on his brilliant series, @MongersPodcast.
My book tells the extraordinary, tragic story of Kathleen Folbigg, and we explored the significant issues it raises about miscarriages of justice, and the need for a Criminal Cases Review Commission.
Meadow's Law is available in paperback and as an e-book and audiobook.

Prof. Tracey Bunda from @UQ_News shed a few happy tears tonight as she was presented with AAUT Career Achievement Award for ‘a legacy of transformative leadership in Indigenous education”. Recognising uni teachers like Tracey was a nice way to kick off my 1st #UASolutionsSummit25
Our CEO @lukesheehyUA and Chair Professor David Lloyd with Professor Tracey Bunda from @Uq_news, the #AAUT 2024 Career Achievement Award winner, at the #UASolutionsSummit25.
Congratulations, Professor Bunda. 👏

Finalists include Academy Fellow Prof Glenn King (@UQscience) whose work has enlisted the help of spiders to develop eco-friendly insecticides. Now, his team @VenomsLab have discovered a molecule that prevents cell death during heart attacks or strokes.
The CEO of @uniaus@lukesheehy is calling on @PeterDutton_MP & @AlboMP to build Australia’s university sector, not wreck it this coming election year. The sector is caught in the middle of the phony war about international students causing Australia’s housing crisis.

Kathleen Folbigg says the complex and drawn-out process over how much compensation she should receive from NSW Govt, has rubbed extra salt into her wounds. How does that sit with you @ChrisMinnsMP & @michaeldaleyMP? Just get it done….before Xmas. https://t.co/Ka5OtzZt37
Today, I got an up-close look at how university researchers are improving the lives of all Australians. At @UOW, I met three of our Shaping Australia Awards finalists delivering game-changing projects—from the world’s cheapest green hydrogen @HysataH2, to empowering regional businesses to thrive @iaccelerate, and building inclusive playgrounds for young adults with disabilities @ShooshiDreyfus. You couldn't get better examples of why universities matter than all the finalists in our Shaping Australia Awards. You can support them by voting in the People’s Choice Award! 🏆 https://t.co/6FAESa5DPT #ShapingAustraliaAwards24 @uniaus
I saw up close how @carovinuesa stood up & spoke out for science and evidence-based policy, in the face of enormous hostility, in the case of Kathleen Folbigg. She continues to do so for others, on top of her day job. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this prize.
Pleased to see that @carovinuesa has been included in the shortlist for the 2024 John Maddox prize "for her work using genetic sequencing to prevent unwarranted accusations of parents that they have harmed their children".
