@AJEnglish, “generating conversation” is doing a lot of work here.
The ad doesn't “highlight” anything other than the continued mutation of antisemitism.
It blames Israel for the price of eggs and bananas and for Americans not having universal health care.
That isn't a policy argument. It's one of the oldest libels there is: the Jews took your bread.
The numbers also don't survive contact with reality.
US aid to Israel runs about $3.8 billion a year, roughly 0.05% of federal spending, and most of it is spent at American defense plants.
Eggs went up because bird flu wiped out tens of millions of hens. Americans lack universal health care, which would cost ~$5 trillion per year - because Congress never passed it. Israel had nothing to do with any of it.
A real news outlet would have said so. Instead, a network funded by the Qatari dictatorship, which has hosted Hamas's political leadership for years, repackaged an antisemitic ad as a neutral “conversation” days before Michigan votes.
That isn't journalism. It's distribution.
I took apart the math behind the antisemitic El-Sayed campaign in @JNS_org - https://t.co/2omkqcZIAN
Israel didn't raise the price of your eggs @mehdirhasan
Bird flu certainly did. US aid to Israel is about 0.05% of the federal budget, and most of it is spent at American defense plants employing Americans. Blaming “the Jews” or the Jewish state for your empty plate is one of the oldest antisemitic libels there is.

Typical mendacious & misleading claim by @mehdirhasan
Ownership isn't sovereignty, Mehdi. The Partition Plan proposed to divide sovereignty & jurisdiction, not deeds.
And the “93%” wasn't remotely Arab-owned. Privately owned Arab land in 1947 was around 16%. The rest was “miri-land,” church-owned, or public land.
And nobody “owned” sovereignty in 1947. It was a British Mandate after literally centuries of Ottoman Empire rule. Jews accepted a split, the vast majority of their proposed share being barren desert. Arab leaders answered the same proposal with war.
There's a word for that too.
Same duplicitous playbook in Michigan, where voters decide Tuesday. @AbdulElSayed blames Israel and “AIPAC money” for your bills. As an @cenkuygur PAC blames Israel for the price of eggs. The oldest libel there is: the Jews took your bread.
I took apart the lies and math here: https://t.co/2omkqcZIAN
Nobody conflated anything. You are doing what Jew-haters have done for centuries: found a respectable new word for an old hatred.
In medieval Europe the problem was the Jewish religion. By the 1800s it was the Jewish race. Today it's the Jewish state. The target stays the same. Only the excuse gets an update.
Strip away the slogans and "anti-Zionism" means one thing. Every people on earth gets self-determination except the Jews. The Arabs keep their 22 states. Dozens of Muslim by definition countries are fine. Only the one people indigenous to that land, who were praying toward Jerusalem centuries before Christianity or Islam existed, have to give theirs up.
Nearly half the world's Jews live in Israel. The overwhelming majority of the rest consider it central to who they are. Call for its destruction and you're talking about them, whatever label you mendaciously put on it.
Then there's the money. Your crowd has convinced itself that it makes sense and isn’t racist to claim that $3.8 billion a year, most of it credit Israel has to spend buying weapons from American factories, is why Americans can't afford eggs, bananas or universal healthcare.
Last fiscal year Washington sent $47 billion in aid to other countries. Keeping US bases in Germany, Japan, South Korea, Italy and dozens of other places costs around $55 billion more. Over $100 billion a year, and I've never seen one of you mention a dime of it.
Only the Jewish country's share keeps you up at night. That tells everyone exactly what this is about.
Your "apartheid" state has Arab citizens who vote, serve in the Knesset and sit on its Supreme Court. An Arab party sat in the governing coalition in 2021. Strange kind of apartheid.
And "genocide" coming from a crowd that marched against Israel during the week of October 7 is the oldest libel in the book: accuse the Jews of the very crime planned against them.
Hold the only Jewish state to a standard no other nation faces, demonize it, deny it the right to exist, then lecture a Jew about antisemitism? Changing the label on the bottle doesn't change what's inside - antisemite.
“OG Antifa” - so your fix for American healthcare is cutting off Israel.
Check the numbers before you post next time.
The US spends roughly $5 trillion a year on healthcare. Security aid to Israel runs $3.8 billion a year, less than a tenth of 1% of that. You could zero it out tomorrow and nobody's insulin would get cheaper.
It doesn't pay for Israeli healthcare either. Economic aid to Israel ended in 2008.
Israelis fund their own universal system through their own taxes, under a law passed in 1995. Most of the military aid gets spent here, at American defense plants.
Now look at everything else.
Washington handed out $47 billion in foreign aid last fiscal year. Keeping US bases running in Germany, Japan, South Korea, Italy and dozens of other countries costs another $55 billion or more a year. That's over $100 billion annually going abroad, and Israel's share is a rounding error.
Egypt gets $1.3 billion a year in US military aid. Jordan got $1.7 billion last year. Germany and Japan get American troops guarding them. I don't see ppl on the far left or right connecting these countries to Americans and affordable healthcare. Just to the one Jewish country.
Funny how that works.
Tony, you keep proving my point.
The Fourth Geneva Convention was signed in August 1949, entered into force in October 1950, and Israel ratified it in July 1951.
The Arab flight you're talking about - from a war the Arab side chose and started - happened in 1947 and 1948.
Treaties don't reach backward in time. That isn't my opinion. It's the basic rule of non-retroactivity, codified in Article 28 of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties.
And even read today, GCIV contains no “right of return.”
Article 49 bars an occupying power from deporting protected persons out of occupied territory. Israel inside the 1949 armistice lines is not occupied territory.
Whether a specific Arab in 1948 fled on his own or was pushed out during a battle, in a war his leaders launched after rejecting partition and then refused to end with peace, it certainly happened before the convention existed.
India ratified GCIV in 1950. Pakistan in 1951. No court and no UN body has ever said it obligates either one of them to repatriate the 15 million uprooted in 1947.
Nobody says it obligates Iraq, Egypt, Syria, Libya or Yemen to bring back the 850,000 Jews they drove out and robbed. You certainly haven't. Because you don’t care about them.
So no, you don't have a law. You have a date you didn't check and a “rule” you only apply to Jews.
Today Israel votes for the 26th Knesset. Our neighbors have spent a century going from sultan to king to colonel to dynasty & tyrannical theocracy.
Here, power changes hands at the ballot box, built mainly by the descendants of Jews who never lived under democracy anywhere. The only real democracy in the Middle East. A miracle hiding in plain sight. 🇮🇱🗳️
Michigan is voting Tuesday, and the antisemitism on the ballot is out in the open.
Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic Senate nominee, calls Israel an “illegal apartheid regime” that “did a genocide” and blames America's affordability problems on Israel and “AIPAC money.”
Now Cenk Uygur's PAC is running an ad blaming Israel for the price of eggs and bananas, and for Americans not having universal health care.
It's the oldest libel there is: the Jews took your bread.
