really cannot be bothered much to make and upload stuff so i havent been updating much public stuff at all, including my site which has not been updated in a long while even though i have partially done the site update locally

xmpp seems like a good bet, but its not getting any traction 100%, and to get everything i need i'd need to juggle between mumble and screenz for screensharing. the biggest issue is that a lot of people are accustomed to discord's features, servers, emojis, etc

honestly discord's a monopoly. discord can get off "safe" with this knowing that their users wouldnt quit the platform for various reasons (friends not moving platforms, platforms being raw, or having poor discovery features or too niche), you'd still have to use both at once
