Not only was the Nova festival at the Gaza border approved last-minute by the Israeli authorities, two entire brigades of soldiers were removed from the area to the West Bank.

As the attack on Oct. 7 was taking place, the IDF Lieutenant Colonel who approved the festival suggested that partygoers should "fend for themselves".
