✡️ My Reflection from Israel — Two Years Later Two years ago, on September 6 at 3:05pm, I walked through the tunnels built by Hamas in Israel. I remember the feeling in the air — quiet, tense, and heavy. Something was coming. Looking back, I realize how close the storm already was. I wish I had spoken up. I wish I had told the media what I saw and what I felt. The signs were there — the war was rising. But my warnings fell on deaf ears. I put my faith in diplomacy. I believed that words and good will could prevent what we now know as October 7. The last commander who took me through those tunnels was IDF Commander Asaf Hamami — a man of courage and compassion. His final assignment, before he was gunned down by Hamas terrorists after kicking down a door where 40 innocent children had been beheaded, was leading me through those same tunnels with the Givati Brigade. After that day, I made myself one promise: I will never stay silent again. Because silence costs lives and a war. Commander Hamami and so many others should still be alive today. Their bravery deserves more than remembrance — it deserves truth. From that day forward, I committed to tell what I see, report what I find, and never let fear or politics bury the facts. A barbed wire fence now cuts across Prey Chan Village, sealing off Cambodian homes and farmland behind boundaries unilaterally imposed by the Thai military. Behind it lie the houses of six villagers who right now can’t return home. One grandmother wept as she watched the road to what used to be her farmland being laid with compacted sand by Thai construction workers. “Every day I look at my home and wonder if we will ever step inside again,” Hul Mliss said. “Every day it feels like there is less and less chance of that happening.” Meanwhile, her 3-year-old granddaughter played in the monsoon-beaten mud-plains by the open-air hammocks on which her family sleeps at night, yards from their barricaded home. The house’s blue rooftop jutted out of the foliage in the glaring mid-afternoon sun, trapped behind newly demarcated boundaries set up by the Thai military weeks ago.
