@MorganSandy14 Have to love world ocean day! Take three for the sea is also a great initiative that shows us how easy it is for us to do our part to look after the ocean π
@Megan48699918 Such a great way for schools to reduce their food waste, and get kids involved in making a difference! Hands-on, innovative and provides great opportunities for cross-curriculum links. When kids apply their learning in real-life situations, we see the shift in learning!
Att. Teachers! Thinking of starting up a compost in your school to help reduce #foodwaste & our greenhouse emissions? Here's a step by step guide that includes the benefits of compost as well as tips & pointers to help you get started #UoNTeach#educ4750
@jj47985290 Yes, @jj47985290 I thought so too! I was thinking it could be a great way to introduce a lesson or unit as well, as it provides many links to different KLA's (as you've provided) and is engaging for students!
Ezekiel Kwaymullina and Sally Morgan's children's book 'My Country' is an amazing reminder of the connection Indigenous Australians have to their country and land. A sense of wellbeing & belonging shines through and is a great health & wellbeing resource #UoNTeach#educ4750#SDG3

@Megan48699918 I love this idea @Megan48699918 - I have to admit to I originally didn't even think of it. Thanks for the suggestion! Such a great educational opportunity while also contributing to the beautiful colours and variety in the garden π±
How great is it to see UON modeling great sustainability! Especially love seeing younger ones being involved, expanding their knowledge and understanding of the benefits community gardens have both environmentally and socially. How can we see more of this?! #UoNTeach#Educ4750
Great to see this group of green thumbs giving our Callaghan community garden some love today! We planted apple, pear and citrus trees and some leafy greens. ππππ₯¬
@OzHarvestEdu Thanks, @OzHarvest! Looks like such a great program filled with nifty resources to use in the classroom. I especially love the free at home hands-on activities you have for parents and carers. Great way to get them involved π
Check out these great resources to use in the classroom to help your school #fightfoodwaste! Loads of tips, tricks, and recipes to help #reducefoodwaste at school and home ππ₯ππ₯¦https://t.co/jv7RAGKRV0
@Megan48699918 It also can be hard for non-indigenous teachers to deliver culturally sensitive content. This is why most of them avoid it! A perfect way to counteract this is to have guest speakers, incursions, etc from people who have permission from elders to do so.
David King, a Gundungurra Aboriginal Elder talks about First Nation Peoples sustainable practices, focusing on food wastage. The concept that 'nothing is to be wasted, there is a purpose for it' is an important lesson for our future citizens to learn! https://t.co/P3m3KZWmif
@HoskingMiss I also love a good video clip! When students have a visual to go along with content, they are so much more engaged and can connect with the information they are receiving. It helps drive home the message!
This is why we need to educate our children on the importance of eating healthy, reducing our #foodwaste & #livingsustainably! 30% of school waste is organic & can be easily composted. This reduces waste going into landfills & creating harmful methane gas! #UoNTeach#educ4750
Wasting food feeds climate change π If everyone in the UK stopped throwing away food for one day, itβd do the same for climate change as taking 14,000 cars off the road for a whole year π²π

@HoskingMiss I also like how #STEM projects promote students to use their higher-order thinking skills along with engaging problem solving, critical and creative thinking π€― It is so multifaceted!
FEAST is a #STEM project-based learning program for stage 3 students educating them on food waste! Hands-on, fun, engaging, and best of all filled with good, fresh FOOD! A sustainable look at eating healthy & creating student changemakers in local communities! #UoNTeach#educ4750
Our FEAST team are holding a FREE online information session 29 March for all teachers and school staff interested in bringing FEAST to their school!

@BenjaminMaytom@aiden_dennis Also making the students such a central focus in directing the change! Though making it engaging for kids, it adds so much more value to their learning and also helps set up lifelong healthy habits for them.
@ReardonBrittany Such an easy and inclusive way to get the whole family involved in physical activity! When students are able to apply their learning from school within their community it makes it so much more authentic and meaningful. #SDG3
@HoskingMiss@Change4Life@Disney I think itβs great to have a break from learning - we all need it! Not only does it help your #Mentalhealth but itβs also engaging and fun for the kids! It would also be a great way to start a lesson if you could align it to the content! How exciting, such a good idea. #SDG3
@Tayla56715090 I feel like we all could benefit from this after Easter break π«! Smoothies are such a great way for students to enjoy their fruits (and veges for the adventurous). Educating kids about #healthyeating is such an important part to developing positive life long habits ! #SDG3
@Benjami49687352 I agree @Benjami49687352 ! Incursions and guest speakers would be how we can achieve this. People speaking to students that are straight from the source, telling them the #facts about #responsibleconsumption π§
@Benjami49687352 @Feedbackorganic I didnβt know that stat for Newcastle! Thatβs a lot of food wastage. Having a #schoolcompost would be also such an amazing way to reduce #foodwaste from the canteen too, not just students lunches. So many benefits π #SDG3
Another PS doing their part for the environment! St Therese in partnership with @Feedbackorganic#FoodCycle are turning their food waste into compost. Creating a sense of responsibility & community, while easily embedded into the curriculum! #UoNTeach https://t.co/Wj8e7nUQf6
Another PS doing their part to make a difference! Teaching students the importance of giving back to the community, & providing for those who need it most is such a valuable lesson. Next goal? Fresh produce grown by the students themselves donated @OzHarvest? #UoNTeach#educ4750
Yesterday our donation of cans from Harmony Day was picked up by @OzHarvest. It was great for some of the students to learn where this food will now go and to know they have helped to make a difference in the lives of others. @OzHarvestEdu#GivingBack#HarmonyWeek
@HoskingMiss Not only does being active improve mental and physical health, but also creates more on-task behaviour in classrooms, and higher academic achievement! Being physically active is such an important part of children's lives πββοΈπββοΈ
