Everyone is so mean for no fucking reason. “You don’t owe anyone anything” has completely destroyed people’s ability to be kind. Because actually we do owe people kindness, care, and understanding.

Characters should absolutely be allowed to be problematic or do and say bad things while being overall good people because that is the reality of how humans are. Expecting uncomplication in characters means that you expect bad, juvenile writing that spells out morality for you.
I think fandom culture has ruined people's ability to grasp the basic concept of fiction.
Why do we treat characters like real people who can be held accountable for bad choices? Why can't we recognize that characters are storytelling tools with inherent and thematic flaws?
